Feedback on FeedDemon 2.0 Beta 4a

A few weeks ago, we spoke with Nick Bradbury on his impending release of FeedDemon 2.0. I've sent him a mountain of feedback for improvements – including the following list this morning (based on his most recent beta, 4a). I've emailed these lists directly to Nick, but figured I'd post today's here just in case others were thinking along the same lines.

  • I'm still annoyed that I can't move the column headers. :)
  • You missed font changes in the Feed Properties | Updating sheet (the numerical fields).
  • I'm perturbed that the gradients in the “feed name” bar and the browser bar aren't the same. (1) They're at two different heights; (2) The uppermost gradient goes from dark to mid-range with a dark font, and the lowermost gradient goes from light to mid-range with a white font. Can you make up your mind and employ a single ethic in both places? :)
  • Any luck with painlessly importing my unweildy NewsGator OPML into folders I've already set up for each feed?
  • Any chance of turning off unnecessary text in the toolbars? Perahps in that “TweakFD” tab I've requested you to enable for we power users?
  • I still think the favicon in the URL bar is distracting, given that the same icon is in the tab above it. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
  • Why don't the column headers for the follow-up flag, enclosure, and sort by read/unread have icons in them?
  • The NewsGator Syncronization dialog has MS Sans Serif for the entire Location section.
  • Why can't I set a default click to open up that link in a new tab? I know I could use CTRL, but…
  • The Newsgator “synchronizing” splash screen that pops up when I'm syncing with a set of feeds through NGOS uses MS Sans Serif (for the word “Synchronizing…”)
  • After a set of feeds (in a folder) has been updated through NGOS, the favicons don't necessarily all appear until I hover over the feed titles first.
  • How come the New Watch icon looks like the default favicon for a feed that doesn't have a favicon?
  • Where's the dialog where I can edit what else goes in the list of options (next to or instead of “Post to del.icio.us“)?
  • Does someone have a style that makes the preview pane look more like Outlook? :)
  • It ocurred to me why I'm slightly annoyed by the Surfer style – 50% of what I see is redundant. (1) I see the item title in the browser top bar, which is fine; (2) I see the item title repeated directly underneath it in a bar with a down arrow I can toggle; (3) I see the item title a third time immediately after that, followed immediately thereafter with the 'Open link in new tab' icon. Jeez Louise, once is enough. :)
  • How can I change style defaults? That is to say, some of them automatically have the content expanded, whlie others don't. I realize I could create my own style in these cases… but do you have some kind of simplistic editor for specifically creating FD styles? Or could I, say, pay someone to create an Outlook-style for me?
  • I see that I can open up an item's permalink just by double-clicking its Title in the Feed list, but I can't open up a new permalink in a new tab very easily. This, again, is why I ask you to set a default for opening all new links in new tabs.
  • Why does hovering over the feed title bar produce a cursor that I don't have registered on my system? Since I have different cursors by default, this clobber really stands out.
  • Why, if I have the browser minimized and click on a tab, does the browser not return to its previous state? Seems like a usability issue.
  • I just discovered that one of my feeds is broken server-side. I can see the author's real email address in the “Author” column. Hoewver, I can't get to that author information anywhere – including from within the Feed properties panel. That's kinda… frustrating. :)

You are DEFINITELY the guy I want to beta my next software development project.

After serious consideration, mindful of my sanity (screw the quality), I've decided not to invite you to beta my next software development project. I'm sorry to have gotten your hopes up.

Seriously, how many issues from your list did Nick address before rolling out the gold code this week?
