Lockergnome.com's design is getting tired. I'm working on making it wired. Thoughts? If you know of an enterprising geek who might be able to lend a hand (or foot), let me know.

Looks good, but a bit too wide in my browser. I prefer sites to expand the right column as the browser window increases and have the left column with a fixed width.

Looks good, but could use more color. I also think that the top section could be reworked. Maybe more the subscriptioon info to a page of its own, and maybe use the top section of the page for daily tech headlines.

Looks alright, but as Jason says a little boring. A little more colour, perhaps? Congrats on going via the Wired route though.

Say, why dontcha ask Sekimori to design it? They did a good enough job on Gretchen's blog.

I like the new look Chris. As long as you are rewriting some code, I always have a hard time getting to the search past issues area. It would be nice if it were a little user-friendly in that regard

Maybe I'm the only one who finds the colors on this appealing? I actually like it, but yes, there is something missing. I wouldn't say it's boring though because the actual content would determine that and the content is interesting.

I like it too. But a little oomf never hurt…Flash intro might be annoying after awhile though…

I think you should get the content up there before the 'Subscription' information. People came for the info, not to subscribe! It is a little… boring, yes. Maybe a little color on the right-hand panel? And why not try to set an example and make it XHTML and CSS compliant? :)

Definately need more information about what Lockergnome is. I have been a lockergnome reader for many years, and yet I go there and still have no idea what Lockergnome does, even though I do. :)

You might try using a background color/image on the rightmost column where you list “Features” and “Community”. Doing so would frame your page's main content area, in addition to adding that little bit of “oomph” that others have indicated it could use. Personally, I like the possibilities, and this new layout certainly feels more, I guess “inviting” is the word I would use, than the old format. A bit more [nackground] color would add some warmth though.
BTW, I don't usually blog about the net, but for you, I made an exception. Chris, you've got a load and a half of talent and drive. I look forward so seeing what you do with the Lockergnome.

To wide for my browser. I've always loved the layout and scheme of your site anyway. If you do change can I use your old layout?

Yes, it is boring, and I agree, get Sekimori on the phone. I looked through their portfolio and I would hire them. Other than that, it “works” and is much better than loading whatever was soaking the bandwidth up the current site does. I can remember you having a problem on CFH getting your own site to load…
Also, I agree with the comment, “What Does Lockergnome Do?” (WDLD?)

Sorry, I don't have the time. See, my PowerBook hasn't crashed since I got it so I'm too busy seeing if I can screw it up by playing with Unix.
Later.

I love the design. Maybe just change the blue color to something more matching the Lockergnome color scheme.. for instance, change the blue to the colors you use for the logo. Or green or light brown or something like that. The layout tho is great!

Very, very nice! I really think clean and crisp is a lot easier on the eyes when there is so much content. Agree about putting subscribing info somewhere else (on the side, perhaps). Content is king :)

Don't use fixed font sizes in your CSS. People can't resize the text size (smaller/larger). Use relative sizing when defining font-size.

I think you need to entirely scrap the heavy indentation/outdentation look to your Title tables and stuff. But whatever you do – NO FLASH INTRO (as was previously suggested)!!

I agree on the color; ditto the NO FLASH INTRO –that is definitely tired. Also, content is nice on the front page, but I think you should convince people to click through to other pages on the site.

I like that you're changing the site. It deffinately was time. I think a good idea would be to use the full body cartoon image of yourself (like on your blog) and then have a cartoon image of Sprocket made at your side. I'd use that on top of the frontpage. And then you could use Sprocket as a helper throughout the site. Searches (fetching), and overall add some fun to the site. I don't know take it or leave it :)

How about a comic strip staring Sprocket, you and Gretchen. It could be sort of a day in the life of the Pirillos kind of thing through the eys and thoughts of Sprocket.

Okay, how about just one small picture of a scantily clad woman? :)
