Chris, I’m baffled as to why you would suggest using a Nvidia Geforce FX 5500. I can’t understand from his email as to what he he wanted to do with the video card, but still, a FX 5500 is pushing it for nearly any task. The performance for that card is quite low, and with a little extra cash put in, you could get a much better card that would last in the long run.
Something from the low end to midrange 7 series from Nvidia could easily outperform the FX 5500, without putting too much out cash-wise. The 7600GS 256MB (AGP) runs for about $90.00, and the PCI-E runs for about $75, which is only a few more dollars that what you recommended. Another step up would be the 8800GS 384MB (PCI-E), running you only a little more at $140. Past that would either be a low-end 9 series, such as the 9600, or an 8800GT, both costing around $200.
So while I’m sure you were recommending the FX 5500 for a cheap bargain, you’d only need to look a few dollars up to find some really great deals on cards that will last you much longer than the already outdated FX-series.

Actually Luke is the one who chose the FX 5500 and asked us to get a coupon for it from NewEgg.
