Ergonomic Office Chair

http://live.pirillo.com/ – When people first see the videos Chris is doing, or the live stream, they often ask what chair that Chris is sitting in. It’s a Grahl Synchron 8, which is no longer available on the open market (although Grahl does continue to make fine chairs – available through furniture outlets across teh country).

Proper seating is often the last thing people pay attention to when purchasing a computer setup: don’t just buy the cheapest or best-looking chair from the office supply store – that’s not the best idea.

Since seating is really important, especially for people who work in front of a computer all the time.

  • The chair has a free range of motion, but it locks forward, so Chris is sitting in a forward slant, which is much better for your back and neck.
  • Has excellent lumbar support, which gives more comfort over a longer period of time
  • A movable headrest allows Chris to adjust the headrest for the most comfortable position

When you go out and buy an office chair, find a chair that is ergonomically designed. What chair do you use now?

[edit: It's Grahl, not Graal. Apparently I'm in the mood for some online gaming?]

Did you mean Grahl not Graal?

actually I read recently that studies show a better position for your back and spine is resting at an angle, slightly slouched back. Look it up I may be wrong.

You said, “While Grahl doesn’t make Chris’s current chair . . .” so the blog that doesn’t answer the question. Who makes Chris’s current chair?

In response to the question: “What chair do you use?” — for my money, the Freedom Chair — so comfortable I often sit in it even when I am not computing!

Incidentally, this really IS a big issue — I have been computing since the day of 8088 steam-powered PCs, before RSI’s were well-known, and I have severe permanent and painful damage to my left shoulder from long hours computing in a chair not designed for the purpose.

I agree with John that the Humanscale Freedom chair is the best ergonomic chair out there right now. I bought mine from mcergo.com for a great price.

uh i was actually wondering where i could get one or grahl’s chairs. i am currently at their website but it seems to be based in germany/europe. do i have to order it thru the website in germany? does anyone know of a vendor that sells it here in the US? or can you recommend another chair that is similar to the one that chris now has. im looking for a chair of quality but not too too expensive.

I don’t think there is a best Ergonomic Office Chair. There are definitely some bad ones out there, as long as the chair suits you and eases – prevents the torment of a painful back that’s the best one for you,
Don’t be fooled that the best looking has the best functions, also the most expensive isn’t always the best.

I finally found out how much his chair officially was.. ( its about $1500 USD) wow dude thats an expensive chair.. but i got for my self now from a european site ( for 1,200 USD) its real nice thanks for letting me know what chair it was.. ( ** Mine is not exactly the same as chris’s but pretty close) and in RED!

I think alot of the ergonomic chairs out there are great, just depends if you got the money to buy one, very expensive.

[...] am in the market for a good computer desk chair. I mean one like Chris Pirillo has in his office — the Grahl Synchron 8, which apparently is not sold publicly anymore. I could do without [...]
