Equal Opportunity Offender
A few folks are upset that 'MoveOn PAC' spent money to advertise on Lockergnome and in this blog. Some folks have even gone as far as to unsubscribe because their party won't pony up the cash to advertise, too. I don't understand the problem? If I went around, saying I was emperor avoiding resources which linked to or allegedly supported things that I did not, I'd never watch television, see a movie, listen to radio, or even surf the 'net. It's impossible to agree with everything everybody says, but it's more difficult to find folks who agree with 100% of what you believe. Don't you agree?

Some things are more easily avoidable than others. For instance, it's easy for me to avoid going to movies that star Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Whoopi, etc. It's a little harder to avoid watching NBC because they advertise thing that I disagree with.
It is easy for me to avoid your site. Sorry, you should have kept unpolitical because you won't see me back here.
Go ahead and think it's no big deal that you lost a narrow-minded conservative reader, but keep in mind that your site is worthless if nobody visits.

I for one am Glad to see that you are willing to keep the ad. I think you are right about people not having to view it if they don't want to. I will be coming back frequently to the site as I always do!

For the people who leave, good riddance. I can totally understand their position, but don't agree with it so by their logic it's great that I won't have to see hear from them. O_o

I suppose, has a little if not more about priorities. If EOE then ____. If point of view then ____. (certainly not limited entirely to a priority issue though)
Each fill in the blank would be different and in accordance with a particular priority.
I didn't know why the ad on your site. But thought perhaps you a supporter.
Does the same television ie ABC display both polit ads from each of two different competing parties? Or, is each polit competitor usually exclusive ie #1 on ABC whilst #2 limited to NBC exclusive of each other, each on a separate channel outlet?
Is it common that two competing advertise on an one exact same channel? Is it common do such competing pay to do so
Not something that I follow that close so as to know. Just a wonderer.

Chris,
I think you know that the “Move On PAC” is extremely offensive to some people because you allude to it in your subject line. I, for one, would not be offended and probably respect your right to sell advertisement to the John Kerry campaign even though my opinions differ. However, you rant and rave all the time about dishonest advertisers with dirty tactics and you are selling advertising to someone who has compared the current President of the United States to Adolf Hitler.
Will it stop me from visiting here? No. Does it help me continue to shape my opinions of you, your sites and the political scene? Yes.
I did un-subscribe to all the Lockergnome newsletters, but not because of political content. I did so because they have lost what you once had…a personal touch with good writing. The newsletters were turning into pure advertising by-lines straight from websites.
On the other hand, I will probably continue to visit your blog because of your differing opinions. It makes us all better people when we stretch. The world would be a boring place if it weren't for differing points of view.

Right on, brother. I'm atheist… but does that mean I avoid/ignore every website/TV show/movie with any mention of religion? Of course not. I respect everyone's right to believe (or disbelieve) or support (or not support) whatever they want to. If I get anything beneficial out of it — and I do from Chris' site — I'll return whether I agree completely or not.
At least the first commenter at the top of this page is willing to admit his/her narrow-mindedness.

You site has been going down hill for a while, now with the MoveOn PAC ad you have reach the bottom. I for one will not be visiting anymore and remove your links from all my lists. You are a whiner and have lost any creditability you may have had at one time! I am fed up with all you wannabe “geeks” and liberals. I hope more people will follow suit!! But if 49 million people can vote Al Gore, we are fighting a losing battle…..

You can and should do whatever you want with your own site. I think the worst thing this ad does is make it obvious that you are a sell out. I will actually look forward to visiting your site, just to see who you accept money from. Wonder what is next? Pehaps a NAMBLA banner. You may be hanging out with Wil a little too much.

ummmmmmmm I will agree when other say things have changed with the Lockergnome newsletters (not even close to how they use to be over the past few years.) BUT….its your site. You do what you want. Im very PRO-BUSH. BUT I support everyones views (but if they are different then mine, they are wrong! lol) I actually have ad's for both parties on my site. One on each side of page. That way I dont piss off everyone completelly.
Chris, keep up the good work! TRY to change lockergnome back to the good ol days but then again things change.

My husband and I have “political arguments”. Spouting what we have heard on TV. Neither one of us knows the truth. We go to the polls and vote, cancelling each other out.
We are actually voting on which one we think has the better personality instead of the issues. What a silly thing to vote about!

If you want to sell advertising, and one party decides to advertise and not the other, I see no problem. You are giving all parties equal opportunity to advertise.
Lets say this wasn't advertising, and it was Chris's personal opinion and his endorsement of a candidate. Listen folks, this is Chris's personal blog, and if he wants to express his opinions, or support one candidate over another, then I see nothing wrong with that. We all have opinion and run the risk of alienating people when we share those opinions to a wide audience. If readers feel that a short running political ad alienates them to the point that they no longer get value out of this site, despite the fact that 99% of the other content is engaging and interesting, then so be it.
It's obvious that the conservaties are worried that Bush will loose this election, and rightly so. I can't think of any other reason they would threaten Chris's business and blog by suggesting they will not read his newsletters and blog any longer. Seems childish, but I guess when you are about to get your *** kicked, you do go into defensive mode.

Moveon is up there with Swift Boat Veterans for the truth, i.e. on the extreme. You could run a Kerry ad, or a Bush ad, but to go out on a limb and take money from the “Bush is a Nazi” crowd is a bit much.

It's just an ad, it'd be different if you blogged about it….no that still wouldn't be different, because it's your personal blog. It would be different if you did your windows fanatic report about your political affiliation, but as far as I know you haven't.

I just don't get it. People have become so bigoted that they won't tolerate freedom of expression any longer (”what I don't agree with must be removed”). Others seem to think their subscription to a free newsletter gives them voting rights on content. Then there are those who seem to think web hosting is still free and there isn't any need to advertise. I'm really confused by those who desire a return to “the way it was”. I guess they'd be happiest if you broadcast on AM radio. And finally, I so do respect (not) those who feel free to post their small minded, insulting attitude under the cloak of an anonymous listing.
Man, where did all this intolerance, bigotry and ignorance come from? And all this over a single ad sold to generate income. I'm totally bemused.

Strobe said: “you are selling advertising to someone who has compared the current President of the United States to Adolf Hitler.”
The guy (Bush) thinks that GOD told him to invade IRAQ. He compares it to a crusade. You know? The type of military campaign which was waged to try to eradicate other forms of religion other than Catholicism in the middle ages. It was his own damn words! How freaking psycho do you have to get before you get impeached??!!

Well it just goes to show that most people are easily offended by anything now days. I do not mind a person who is trying to make an honest buck to keep a site going but to throw something out there in an already hot political race and then expect people to take what you say .. sorry not for me. I came here to get computer information I go to other sites to checkup on the political and since this is a free land I will not be back. One for the arrogant view of Chris and for reading serveral of the posts here of hateful people. I remember this site from way back in the day. Sorry to see it leave my fav list

I feel sorry for the fools who unsubscribed from the newsletters & deleted your site because of your perceived political views. They probably don't know that you stated in your newsletter a few years ago that you were a Republican, and even if they did know, they want to restrict your ability to exercise your First Amendment free speech rights. It's their loss; the whole point of the blog is that it's YOUR blog, and that you can and should say anything that you want to. Keep doing what you do best and remember the ancient proverb: don't let the ******** grind you down!

All you Republicans are up in arms about MoveOn.org but if that link was swiftvets.com you would think Chris was the second coming. Morons. Oh and those of you that think Chris is obligated to talk about computers and ONLY computers on his personal webspace, you too are delusional. Does this make me not believe that he is whoring out his beliefs for a buck? Nope… but Chris has made it patently obvious that he will sacrifice all sorts of things to make a buck. It's an ad people… get over it. If you had any confidence at all in your canidate you wouldn't be concerned about a link to a political website.

It seems that our country is moving towards an atmosphere of decreased tolerance for other views…and even freedom of speech. Ironically the speech that seems to be upsetting people is not even that of extremist fringe groups but simply speech that supports the presidential candidate of one of the two major political parties.
Even saying that you will probably vote for Kerry is enough to get people to jump down your throat and call you un-American or stupid.
I really worry about the future of democracy when voting for one party or another is treated as treason or blasphemy. I realize that it's not all conservatives that are doing this but a disrespectful minority.
The ghost of McCarthy haunts us again.
I also worry about the down-and-dirty tactics that both sides are using to further their cause. So Michael Moore stretches the truth a little when he tries to connect the Bush'es to the Bin Laden's and that is decried…as it probably should be. It seems though that the same standards for truth and decency do not apply to John Kerry. Until now a decorated war hero but now Karl Rove and the dirty tricks gang have to try to imply (or lie) about Mr. Kerry's war record. Where is the outrage? Is our society really going to sell our democracy and truth in exchange for some votes.

If you allow a few vocal fools threaten you and get you to change your advertising policies, you will forever be at the mercy of vocal fools. I'm sure Fox News lost a few idiots because they run ads from the Democratic candidates and I'm sure they didn't care. The vast majority of people will not cry and go home when forced to see something they don't completely agree with, if you try to cater to those fringe few, you'll end up pleasing nobody at all.
