That so-called American Dream stuff is just wasteful ambition. People just want more nice stuff, fancy vacations, etc. The old days were better, where everyone worked nine to five and rubbed shoulders and talked to each other, and everyone had about the same resources. Nobody got ahead of anyone else.
Take it away and take away the problems of ambition.
If you want to have a dream, realize it in your back yard growing fruits and vegetables, or tinker in the garage. Noble diversions of the past, and still acceptable today. You don't have to be some famous person, or some tycoon or business exec, or any of those things that are superficial.
As I said, NOBODY needs more than 50k a year. There are millions of people out here that think the same thing. Just cause we didn't win this last one doesn't mean we won't be back. If you're making the big bucks, you are wasteful, because there are plenty of people who need that surplus more than you. Nothing says you can't buy some small toy once in awhile, but nobody should have a boat or fancy car or SUV when there are people who can't afford a rusted bicycle.
Taxes are meant to equalize. It's like Robin Hood: take from the well to do and give to those who do not have. Also think of it as share and share alike. A pretty good concept. Since people don't like to share willingly, the government should do the job, and taxes are the simplest way.
In the old days of small towns, the town took care of its people. This is no different. The government is the town and taxes are what keeps it going.
Typical conservatives though--big dreamers, wanting to make their first million, live the good life, fancy cars, not even noticing their neighbors are working two jobs. I say take it away from them and pull them down to the real world level like everyone else.
I can't think of a better example than the private school: everyone wears the same uniform, and nobody has more than anyone else.
Get rid of the wasteful ambition, and you have equality.

Gotta say, this conservative America crap is BS. And things are GONNA change, I promise you that.
I think countries like France have it right.
People don't deserve an inordinate amount of money. I say nobody should be allowed to make more than 50 grand a year like was mentioned--that's plenty. Take away the rest in taxes and give it to people who actually need it. People need to learn to live modestly and appreciate the simple things anyway. Take away the insane blind ambition and craziness.
I am totally for government care--insurance, the whole nine yards. It can work, and it means nobody gets any special break over anyone else. Sameness eliminates the negatives of greedy ambition.
People in this country don't individually have the sense to live their lives properly half the time, but collectively as a society, we are smarter than that. "Group Think" is the way to go in my book long term.
If we homogenized all these radical individuals and "independent" minded conservatives, they would have no choice but to get along and go with the program. If we allowed everyone to only have the same resources (like sending kids to private school where they have all the same clothes and gear) there would be little to argue about. Regimentation and standardization of daily life makes it pretty difficult to "act up" and dissent, be it kids in a private school or people interacting in society. It's the only solution for the future.
That's where my party has it right. Just too bad we lost to the ignorant masses this time around, but there is next time. And we will do it, mark my words.
Conservatives just plain suck, and this ambitious wealth greed--I say take it away before they get taken away. Equality everywhere and in every driveway and the world would be a better place.

Jimbo--
Accidents happen; you were born, weren't you? I'd be willing to bet that you're a single male without any kids, which is a blessing.
There are far more important things in life than material possessions. I wasn't complaining about the cost of formula, just stating what the price was. However, complaining about the price of formula is like complaining about the price of gas: you still need it, so you're going to buy it regardless. Just like gas, we wouldÂ’ve been able to pay for the formula if we had to but it was nice to have the assistance from the government. It is the one and only thing that we have pursued help on. WeÂ’ve never needed food stamps, never needed welfare. The Bush tax cuts have provided in each of the last two tax returns, but I would rather that money be used towards our record deficit; I donÂ’t want my kids to be paying off our debt of today.
If everyone waited until they felt that they could comfortably afford having a child, you'd have a lot of David Letterman-like parents: far too old to be having kids. They're expensive and very time-consuming. From my point of view, it's better to have them before you're in a "pattern."

There wasn't much of any other option this year or in 2000. You have to vote for somebody. Unfortunately, with the candidates that are being put into the forefront, you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

So much hatred. It's sad that those people so full of hate can't just let it go. The guy that said he'd vote for anybody but Bush is a perfect example. But it's easy to see that these people are ruled by their emotions, and unwilling to really listen to the issues. Right now we've got a leader that has 51% of the country that believes in him, but had the country gone the other way, we would have been stuck with someone that had very few people truly behind him, as most of his votes just came from the "anybody but Bush" crowd. It would have been a sad day if a president had been elected that way, but I'm sure anyone who hates America would have preferred it that way.

Oh yes, the "majority of the people" voted for Bush...at least, that majority that wasn't turned away from the polls without being granted provisionals...or those folks in the NAACP that were sent leaflets telling them to vote on November 3rd...
But anyway...
I didn't like Kerry at all, and I absolutely can't stand Bush, so I was screwed either way. "Better the enemy we know", I suppose. I don't suppose we can get Clinton back for 4 more, can we? At least then I could go overseas without getting spit on.

I’m a registered independent and voted for Gore in 2000 and Kerry this year, but really would’ve rather checked a box that read “Anybody But Bush. Neither Gore nor Kerry excited me too much as a potential leader (Gore nearly lulled me to sleep, in fact), but I can’t imagine anything being worse than what has happened to this country since January 20, 2001 when good ole boy Dubyah was sworn into office. Our economy is in the crapper, we’re stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, finding a decently-paying job is nearly impossible and our country is about as divided as it’s been since the end of the Civil War.
Jimbo, I’m 22 and am working my ass of and barely clearing $30,000 per year; that includes my wife’s income. I’m living fairly comfortably, so perhaps you need to adjust your spending habits. However, I will admit that we have reaped the benefits of the US Government, using WIC checks to purchase $25 cans of formula that would last 2-3 days, at most. Maybe you’re right and we should do-away with all these types of programs. My kid should’ve just toughened up and learned how to eat solid foods at a younger age, long before his teeth had come in. How silly of me. Of course, my wife could’ve just stayed home and fed him, but then she’d have to “get off her ass and go get a job to meet your approval.
WeÂ’re all stuck with SmirkinÂ’ George until January 20, 2009 (1,536 days away) whether we like it or not. As much as I canÂ’t stand the man and as much as these next four years worry me, I donÂ’t have time to have my complaints fall on deaf ears as they have in each of the last two elections.

Well, it seems the pain of this past week is NOT going way, at least not for me.
This past election was just such a TRAVESTY. It truly made me want to weep, people. Not just weep but tremble with apprehension and concern for mankind.
51 million un-insightful, uneducated individuals without a clue decided for the rest of us. It is a shame, a dirty shame.
Nobody should deny us the right to do AS WE PLEASE in our own homes with or without the lights on. What about FREEDOM people, I ask of you? What about it? Freedom is just that, the freedom to do what we please, when we please, and with what feels good and pleasurable. This so called "morality" and "religion" is for the stupid people who do not realize life is short and you need to act on it while you can. Other people will if you do not! Do they not realize this?
What about these so-called "moral" issues? Oh puh-lease.
I see nothing wrong with abortion either. Some babies die at birth anyway, what is the difference? How can a baby even know or understand their environment, so what is the big issue there? Euthansia is also not a bad thing and should be embraced as a viable option in an overcrowded world. With the growing population, one day eventually we will have to decide if very old and sick people are contributing or are a burden, and I for one (if I was no longer well) would accept the reality of mandated euthanasia. Society will decide one day, and we might as well think about the practical aspect of these things now.
It is SUCH a shame that we have such a simple, ignorant population of people with no sense of progressiveness. All tied up in this ridiculous concept of general morals and not even living their lives to the fullest. I for one live each day as I please, because I know that this is it!
I am so glad that people with a voice like Chris are open minded and embrace new ideas. He is one of the progressive ones on this earth. There should be more of him, or at least a cute brother than swings my way...oh my! ;)
I just SOOOO wish the tables of time could be reversed to remove the sting of this simply revolting election. I can't imagine any sore hurting more!
What is next people, what is next?

Society will decide one day, and we might as well think about the practical aspect of these things now.
It is SUCH a shame that we have such a simple, ignorant population of people with no sense of progressiveness. All tied up in this ridiculous concept of general morals and not even living their lives to the fullest. I for one live each day as I please, because I know that this is it!
I am so glad that people with a voice like Chris are open minded and embrace new ideas. He is one of the progressive ones on this earth. There should be more of him, or at least a cute brother than swings my way…oh my! ;)
I just SOOOO wish the tables of time could be reversed to remove the sting of this simply revolting election. I can't imagine any sore hurting more!
What is next people, what is next?

Do Bush voters know what they voted for? Really? More war on an abstract noun (get used to total war, guys - the draft is surely coming), anti-gay, anti-intellectual, anti-peace, anti-environment, anti-women's rights, pro-dark ages religious superstition
Nice. That's what you wanted. I sincerely hope you get it.
