Election Selection

It's finally over… or is it? We had MSNBC on all night, and it seems that Bush is going to be leading our country for another four years. I'm neither thrilled nor disappointed. We spent good money getting our absentee ballots back home, though. In a few hours, we'll return to California. Looks like it's been taken over by Smurfs – what, being colored blue on the new maps and all. Just when I had changed my entire wardrobe to red!

You've got to admit, the Smurf theme song would be quite fitting as the California State Song.

Trying to stay on that fence, eh?
Smart move…I would do the same thing rather than alienate people who contribute to my livelihood. It wouldn't make sense.
Funny how a lot of well known non-political personalities haven't figured that out though. Why they feel so compelled to put their careers and popularity on the line–and in effect shove their self-righteous egos at us–I'll never fathom. Being in the public spotlight is not a dictate that you now have political responsibility–or the justification–to use your public appreciation in one field as a political platform.

w00t! BUSH w00t!

C'mon Chris… You know it's a disappointment.
I know for a fact you are an intelligent guy. You are not Pro-Life, Pro-Religion, Pro-War, Anti-gay. This is what a man I will not call “my leader” stands for.
The youth voter turnout was comparable to the 2000 vote. It was a huge disappointment.
The good news is that this fuck-head will make a total disaster out of everything from the economy to relations. He will fuck it up so bad that 2008 will leave no choice but change.

“Get a grip you sore loser. Gee Wiz… france is waiting for you!”
I think you're the one who needs a vacation.

FOUR MORE YEARS……..until Hillary.

Problem with dumocrats/liberals is they believe in freedom of speech (but only their own).
Given the chance, they'd change that “boring old constitution” to something more “modern.” Maybe just two words: anything goes.
But the reality is, this country elected GWB. That's the bottom line.
As a protest gesture, you could always move to Canada. In fact, I recommend it.
No need for you being in a place where you know better than 50 million people…

Well.
I just simply must interject here!
As both an atheist and a practicing homosexual, I have some thoughts on this matter.
First, I think we should leave the middle east AT ONCE. If we leave them alone they should hopefully leave us alone. YES, I know some people say that those people have sworn to destroy us even where we live. And that they will just come here and devarstate us. But I think if we can just be friends at some level, it will work out and there will be peace. We SHOULD have had a discussion with Bin Laden and listened to his complaints in the FIRST place. Then maybe this could have been avoided. If he had seen us as open to dialog and not just some people that he has sworn to hate, then maybe, just maybe, we would have some peace in the world today. All this rage is just so silly. Those beheadings are very frightening to me, but in the same way if we had simply listened to those people and talked with them before this all happened, it might not have happened. We cannot be the world's police officers. We must set an example of showing them respect and then through this they would hopefully emulate our behavior and treat their own people with respect and dignity by their own free choice.
But I also want to say something about this country and its beliefs.
I don't believe religion belongs anywhere in this country of course. It is mindless and pointless and we are all here for a limited time and should enjoy it to the maximum while we can. We should not be limited by religion. Some might call this pleasure orientation, but I see it as living to the utmost.
If it were not for the Democrats, I would not enjoy the freedom of this viewpoint. And there is NOTHING wrong with men marrying men, people. What we do in our bedrooms at night is our own personal business thank you very much!
The world may look down on some of the contemporary liberalism we embrace here but we are trendsetters as well. We should not be afraid to open our minds to radical ideas because that is evolution.
I am just so sad about the election though. I think daily (hourly even) of all the poor people who can barely make it in this country. With just some small government subsidy and training, and new infrastructure for anyone who needed it, this country could be so much better. Look at all the people earning over $50,000 a year and their ultra-comfortable lives. It isn't quite fair is it. This country needs to have some mandate for sharing the wealth. Taxes are uncomfortable I know but it is the only way to distribute income more fairly.
I have said what I wished to say. I hope we can all reflect in the future and come to terms with this and have some semblance of PEACE in the future.

“”I'm a jew, but I support Hitler! Why? I don't know!”"
Oh come on. Bush has come out and spoken in support of states granting civil unions to gay couples. That's a far, FAR cry from gassing gay people in concentration camps.
It's that kind of rhetoric that makes honest political discussion in this country difficult.
The Zero Boss

someone should tell mr. anonymous that this is bush's second term so there will definitely be a change in 2008. who is this moron anyway? hehe….

Man, reading this is like a breath of fresh air! All of the warm thoughts and such.
I think y'all need to call it a day and move onto Miller time. ;o)

i feel exactly the same — “neither thrilled or disappointed” — at the outcome of the presidential election. i did not vote for bush or kerry but i actually like “w” for some strange reason. he has this stealth charm that leaves you rooting for him even against your better judgement.

This is why politics and religion is not allowed at the dinner table with Political Dysfunctional Blogers (PDB's)

Do Bush voters know what they voted for? Really? More war on an abstract noun (get used to total war, guys – the draft is surely coming), anti-gay, anti-intellectual, anti-peace, anti-environment, anti-women's rights, pro-dark ages religious superstition
Nice. That's what you wanted. I sincerely hope you get it.

Well, it seems the pain of this past week is NOT going way, at least not for me.
This past election was just such a TRAVESTY. It truly made me want to weep, people. Not just weep but tremble with apprehension and concern for mankind.
51 million un-insightful, uneducated individuals without a clue decided for the rest of us. It is a shame, a dirty shame.
Nobody should deny us the right to do AS WE PLEASE in our own homes with or without the lights on. What about FREEDOM people, I ask of you? What about it? Freedom is just that, the freedom to do what we please, when we please, and with what feels good and pleasurable. This so called “morality” and “religion” is for the stupid people who do not realize life is short and you need to act on it while you can. Other people will if you do not! Do they not realize this?
What about these so-called “moral” issues? Oh puh-lease.
I see nothing wrong with abortion either. Some babies die at birth anyway, what is the difference? How can a baby even know or understand their environment, so what is the big issue there? Euthansia is also not a bad thing and should be embraced as a viable option in an overcrowded world. With the growing population, one day eventually we will have to decide if very old and sick people are contributing or are a burden, and I for one (if I was no longer well) would accept the reality of mandated euthanasia. Society will decide one day, and we might as well think about the practical aspect of these things now.
It is SUCH a shame that we have such a simple, ignorant population of people with no sense of progressiveness. All tied up in this ridiculous concept of general morals and not even living their lives to the fullest. I for one live each day as I please, because I know that this is it!
I am so glad that people with a voice like Chris are open minded and embrace new ideas. He is one of the progressive ones on this earth. There should be more of him, or at least a cute brother than swings my way…oh my! ;)
I just SOOOO wish the tables of time could be reversed to remove the sting of this simply revolting election. I can't imagine any sore hurting more!
What is next people, what is next?

Since you know better than the majority of Americans, figure out how to override us.

I’m a registered independent and voted for Gore in 2000 and Kerry this year, but really would’ve rather checked a box that read “Anybody But Bush. Neither Gore nor Kerry excited me too much as a potential leader (Gore nearly lulled me to sleep, in fact), but I can’t imagine anything being worse than what has happened to this country since January 20, 2001 when good ole boy Dubyah was sworn into office. Our economy is in the crapper, we’re stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, finding a decently-paying job is nearly impossible and our country is about as divided as it’s been since the end of the Civil War.
Jimbo, I’m 22 and am working my ass of and barely clearing $30,000 per year; that includes my wife’s income. I’m living fairly comfortably, so perhaps you need to adjust your spending habits. However, I will admit that we have reaped the benefits of the US Government, using WIC checks to purchase $25 cans of formula that would last 2-3 days, at most. Maybe you’re right and we should do-away with all these types of programs. My kid should’ve just toughened up and learned how to eat solid foods at a younger age, long before his teeth had come in. How silly of me. Of course, my wife could’ve just stayed home and fed him, but then she’d have to “get off her ass and go get a job to meet your approval.
WeÂ’re all stuck with SmirkinÂ’ George until January 20, 2009 (1,536 days away) whether we like it or not. As much as I canÂ’t stand the man and as much as these next four years worry me, I donÂ’t have time to have my complaints fall on deaf ears as they have in each of the last two elections.

Oh yes, the “majority of the people” voted for Bush…at least, that majority that wasn't turned away from the polls without being granted provisionals…or those folks in the NAACP that were sent leaflets telling them to vote on November 3rd…
But anyway…
I didn't like Kerry at all, and I absolutely can't stand Bush, so I was screwed either way. “Better the enemy we know”, I suppose. I don't suppose we can get Clinton back for 4 more, can we? At least then I could go overseas without getting spit on.

This country will continue to be dominated by the neo-cons until somebody discovers the cure for stupidity.

So much hatred. It's sad that those people so full of hate can't just let it go. The guy that said he'd vote for anybody but Bush is a perfect example. But it's easy to see that these people are ruled by their emotions, and unwilling to really listen to the issues. Right now we've got a leader that has 51% of the country that believes in him, but had the country gone the other way, we would have been stuck with someone that had very few people truly behind him, as most of his votes just came from the “anybody but Bush” crowd. It would have been a sad day if a president had been elected that way, but I'm sure anyone who hates America would have preferred it that way.

There wasn't much of any other option this year or in 2000. You have to vote for somebody. Unfortunately, with the candidates that are being put into the forefront, you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

Jimbo–
Accidents happen; you were born, weren't you? I'd be willing to bet that you're a single male without any kids, which is a blessing.
There are far more important things in life than material possessions. I wasn't complaining about the cost of formula, just stating what the price was. However, complaining about the price of formula is like complaining about the price of gas: you still need it, so you're going to buy it regardless. Just like gas, we wouldÂ’ve been able to pay for the formula if we had to but it was nice to have the assistance from the government. It is the one and only thing that we have pursued help on. WeÂ’ve never needed food stamps, never needed welfare. The Bush tax cuts have provided in each of the last two tax returns, but I would rather that money be used towards our record deficit; I donÂ’t want my kids to be paying off our debt of today.
If everyone waited until they felt that they could comfortably afford having a child, you'd have a lot of David Letterman-like parents: far too old to be having kids. They're expensive and very time-consuming. From my point of view, it's better to have them before you're in a “pattern.”

Gotta say, this conservative America crap is BS. And things are GONNA change, I promise you that.
I think countries like France have it right.
People don't deserve an inordinate amount of money. I say nobody should be allowed to make more than 50 grand a year like was mentioned–that's plenty. Take away the rest in taxes and give it to people who actually need it. People need to learn to live modestly and appreciate the simple things anyway. Take away the insane blind ambition and craziness.
I am totally for government care–insurance, the whole nine yards. It can work, and it means nobody gets any special break over anyone else. Sameness eliminates the negatives of greedy ambition.
People in this country don't individually have the sense to live their lives properly half the time, but collectively as a society, we are smarter than that. “Group Think” is the way to go in my book long term.
If we homogenized all these radical individuals and “independent” minded conservatives, they would have no choice but to get along and go with the program. If we allowed everyone to only have the same resources (like sending kids to private school where they have all the same clothes and gear) there would be little to argue about. Regimentation and standardization of daily life makes it pretty difficult to “act up” and dissent, be it kids in a private school or people interacting in society. It's the only solution for the future.
That's where my party has it right. Just too bad we lost to the ignorant masses this time around, but there is next time. And we will do it, mark my words.
Conservatives just plain suck, and this ambitious wealth greed–I say take it away before they get taken away. Equality everywhere and in every driveway and the world would be a better place.

That so-called American Dream stuff is just wasteful ambition. People just want more nice stuff, fancy vacations, etc. The old days were better, where everyone worked nine to five and rubbed shoulders and talked to each other, and everyone had about the same resources. Nobody got ahead of anyone else.
Take it away and take away the problems of ambition.
If you want to have a dream, realize it in your back yard growing fruits and vegetables, or tinker in the garage. Noble diversions of the past, and still acceptable today. You don't have to be some famous person, or some tycoon or business exec, or any of those things that are superficial.
As I said, NOBODY needs more than 50k a year. There are millions of people out here that think the same thing. Just cause we didn't win this last one doesn't mean we won't be back. If you're making the big bucks, you are wasteful, because there are plenty of people who need that surplus more than you. Nothing says you can't buy some small toy once in awhile, but nobody should have a boat or fancy car or SUV when there are people who can't afford a rusted bicycle.
Taxes are meant to equalize. It's like Robin Hood: take from the well to do and give to those who do not have. Also think of it as share and share alike. A pretty good concept. Since people don't like to share willingly, the government should do the job, and taxes are the simplest way.
In the old days of small towns, the town took care of its people. This is no different. The government is the town and taxes are what keeps it going.
Typical conservatives though–big dreamers, wanting to make their first million, live the good life, fancy cars, not even noticing their neighbors are working two jobs. I say take it away from them and pull them down to the real world level like everyone else.
I can't think of a better example than the private school: everyone wears the same uniform, and nobody has more than anyone else.
Get rid of the wasteful ambition, and you have equality.

Read what the average democrat did after the election:

You might could say they got the monkey off their back.

A Georgia man was so upset over the election that he travelled to Ground Zero to shoot himself.
