First off it has a ton of filters, dozens more than iMovie. Second off they're more configurable in a sense that you not only can change how powerful they are applied but also how the blend. And it uses layers to do this (like in Photoshop) so you can mess around and do a ton of nice effects to sections of footage. Look at the filter list.
