Use the filters! All of my problems were solved after putting mine on. In the directions that came with my Cisco 678 modem it said that you HAD to use the filters so I figured that they knew what they were talking about. BTW, welcome back! It just filters out the background noise. If you do not have the filters on the background noise will get stronger and stronger depnding on the speed of your connection. I heard no noise at 256k/256k but at 512k/512k I hear some noise so I put the filters on. I ran without filters for over a year and never had any disconnection problem.
