DSL! DSL!
Looks like I have everything in working order! The only thing is - when I pick up the phone, I get the cross noise. Is that supposed to happen? They sent filters. Maybe I should try one of those to see if that clears things up. Eh. I love speed. Woo hoo! It's good to be back!

Yes, Chris. You're supposed to install one of those line filters on every phone in your house unless you want your internet connection to be disconnected with every phone ring and every time someone makes a call.

Not having the filters on will not disconnect your internet connection. It just filters out the background noise.
If you do not have the filters on the background noise will get stronger and stronger depnding on the speed of your connection.
I heard no noise at 256k/256k but at 512k/512k I hear some noise so I put the filters on.
I ran without filters for over a year and never had any disconnection problem.

I'm incredibly jealous. I'm still stuck on a dialup.
So… painfully… slow…

Yeah, Chris, go with the filters. Wish I could get DSL; my phone line just blows when it comes to DSL connections. (I've tried a zillion times to my regret but no response.)
Welcome back ;)

I had the same problem with line noise when I got DSL. Use the filters! All of my problems were solved after putting mine on. In the directions that came with my Cisco 678 modem it said that you HAD to use the filters so I figured that they knew what they were talking about. BTW, welcome back!
