( First, anyone using or considering AT&T should read this: http://www.engadget.com/entry/5326780577844212/ )
I tried my level best to become an AT&T wireless customer. The AT&T store was so understaffed that I gave up and decided to order on the web. The website got most of the way through processing my order and then broke.
So I called them, and the guy who took my order over the phone screwed up the CC number, causing AT&T to put the order on hold...but even though I had given them two contact numbers and an email address, they *never* tried to reach me.
Three weeks later I called to find out why my phones had never arrived. I won't elaborate on the ensuing incompetent run-around I got from "customer service", but it certainly convinced me that I never wanted to deal with those people again.
Happy ending: I went to T-Mobile, which was the only other provider to carry the Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones I wanted. The T-Mobile rep was both courteous and competent, and I'm a happy customer.

AT&T ripped me off years ago on my phone bill - one of those "Yes, Mr. Nelson that's a local call" - a local call to the tune of $800. I swore them off then and the only time I ever went back was when they sent me a check for $100 if I switched. I switched and a month later switched back to my old provider. I'm a happy Verizon customer now.

I would have to politely disagree with you on this one Chris. My experiences with AT&T have been nothing but stellar when I've had to use them. They accidentally double charged my bank account. One phone call and it was taken care of no questions asked. I "downgraded" my service as I was utilizing the full amount with no problems whatsoever and the guy on the phone was very happy to explain to me EXACTLY what I was getting in my 'downgrade'. The phone connection has been stellar in my area (Oregon) and the voice quality has been the same.
As an aside: I don't work for AT&T in any way. I am just a happy customer.

Heck ya! Go back to verizon!
I switched to ATNT for a free T616 Sony, it is awesome! But ATNT sucks....
With verizon, text messaging is only like 4 bucks for unlimited. ATNT is like 4.95 for 15! I do 15 in one day!
And verizon customer serivce is awesome! "GOGO GO run and dont look back!

No, dude. Don't go to Verizon. I'm on Verizon now. Worst Customer Service EVER. Maybe it's different out where you are, but we have cocky clerks who think they know everything about the electronics world working here. Too bad they don't know what a data cable is.
Since I'm 17, they wouldn't let me change my service plan to something cheaper. They said "get your dad on the phone." So I did. Then the lady just sat there and shook her head at me while I held the phone out for her to talk to him. "I can't do that." Then another ... clearly... intelligent.. woman in the very intelligent business outfit says while trying to look busy with her PC (not looking up, you know, how smart people do) "Uh, he's gonna have to call dat 800 numbah, they gonna tell him to get his dad on the phone for us." I held up my phone and said HEY, RIGHT HERE! More head shaking. I shook my head, walked out the door, and am waiting to have the deed done by my very busy dad.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying paying my $65 bill on my own with my lunch money. Software dev and consulting doesn't pay enough around here.
