Donut Holes
In the past few years, I've eaten maybe one or two donuts – Krispy Kremes, but only to discover if they lived up to their hype (and they don't, not by a longshot). Partially hydrogenated oils have kept me from engaging in pastry fun. Trans fats are impossible to avoid, but I do what I can to minimize my risk and exposure to one of man's worst inventions ever. Not the donut – partially hydrogenated oils.
Jake told me about Mighty O Donuts the other day, a shoppe across town that has… “Lots O' Chocolate, Lemon Poppy, French Toast, Chocolate Raspberry, Cuckoo for Coconut, Blueberry, and Good old Glazed.” On the semi-nutty donut Web site, they claim to have no trans fats in their products (100% organic, vegan). Sounds good to me, especially if they taste just as nice as “regular” donuts.
I think I'll try a glazed first…

Mmm … donuts …
I must admit, I don't go nuts for donuts (especially after a rather large oil burn on my leg), but give me some hickory smoked apple slices, and I'm a happy guy.
Of course, rolling my own sushi is tops on my list of “food I love to make and eat” – however, it doesn't help that I suck at it.

If you love donuts, but not all the garbage that the automated nuts have in them, you might check out this recipe:

It's still fried, but at least you can control what goes into it… Awesome taste.

Better send someone else inside to pick up the Mighty O's to avoid “Café Fiore's organic espresso”….

I haven't tried Mighty-O's donuts, but I am a huge fan of top pot donuts. Starbucks just started using them for their donuts downtown and I admit I am an addict. One chocolate cake/chocolate frosting donut and I am in heaven!

Mighty-O donuts are great, and they probably really are as healthy as donuts could possibly be. I can't handle regular donuts at all, but Mighty-Os work for me–no problem.
Next time you're in Wallingford, swing by and try one–you'll be good!

yeah…i live by a place that sells top pot donuts, and i *thought* they were the same basic donut crap. didn't realize they have beef fat in them. well, if that's true i won't eat one again–i'm a veg.
mighty o's are great. best if you get them fresh. they get oily after they've been sitting around awhile (one consequence of using vegetable oil for frying rather than a fat that's solid at room temp–much preferable, health-wise, but prone to oozing out.)
