Do you Want an iPhone 3G?

I’m never going to live down the first day I talked about the iPhone. I said it was “just another device”. Of course, I have since eaten those words, many times over. The newest version of the iPhone… the 3G… is upon us. Do you want one?

This is the second version of the iPhone hardware. iPhone 2.0 (the Operating System) is going to be available not only for the iPhone 3G, but also for current iPhones. Apple is making that update free, as long as you already have an iPhone. If you have an iPod Touch, it will be available for about $10.00. This is definitely worth it. In iPhone 2.0 the Operating System, Apple is going to allow you to download applications from the App Store. The iPhone makes it possible for the world’s best developers to create applications that are nothing short of amazing. They’ve also added a few other features to the operating system.

I don’t know that many of the new features are evolutionary, rather they are revolutionary. The new hardware is going to be capable of speeds so much faster than Edge. Is it going to be blindingly fast? I doubt it. But it will be faster than the current iPhone for sure.

Probably one of the more welcome features of the new iPhone 3G is the GPS feature. According to Apple:

Find your location, get directions, and see traffic — all from your phone. Maps on iPhone 3G combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower location technology with the Multi-Touch interface to create the best mobile map application ever.

If you’re considering getting an iPhone, you should wait for the 3G to be released for sale on July 11th. They are going to sell for $200.00 for the 8GB, or $299.00 for the 16GB. They are much more affordable than the first release of the iPhone. Keep in mind that the connection service is going to vary in price though. If you’re a home user, it’s going to cost you $30 per month, vs $20 per month for the current connection. If you’re a business user, it’ll be $45.00 per month. So are you really saving anything, with the hardware being less expensive? Up front, you’re saving money. Over time… you’re not.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the developers are going to be working on at the App Store. Not everything is going to cost you money. The App Store is clean, and very well organized. It’s a great way to evolve iPhone as a platform.

3G technology gives iPhone fast access to the Internet and email over cellular networks around the world. iPhone 3G also makes it possible to do more in more places: Surf the web, download email, get directions, and watch video — even while you’re on a call.

  1. 3G What’s better than getting faster speeds on your iPhone while browsing? The point is having a reliable network that is capable of pushing the speeds necessary for browsing complex web pages and streaming large sized videos.
  2. Capabilities I have a crappy Motorola Razr v3, and it is so very limited with the Verizon software on it. I cannot even change the image on the front screen with an update. In order to chang it, I would have to buy a new Razr! I know I will jump on the bandwagon and start designing applications for the iPhone, so I can add functionality to help myself and others.
  3. iPod I have an original iPod video, which is 60GB. Instead of buying a new iPod Touch, I can save money by buying an iPhone. The 8GB iPhone is about $100 less than the iPod Touch! Why should I buy an iPod and a separate phone (such as my Razr), when I can just get an iPhone… save money… and get a lot more functionality?
  4. The Look Call me a “Fanboi” if you wish. You have to admit that Apple knows how to make good-looking products. The iPhone is a very sleek and sexy device. The large screen just begs to be used for hours on end. Getting an iPhone is like getting a fancy watch. If you’re all about quality and look, only settle for the best. Make yourself stand out in the crowd by using an iPhone.

I do indeed want one. I left you an email why at Chris@Pirillo.com

Go check it out…lol

I don’t have an iPhone scince I live in Mexico and I don’t like much the idea of ublocking iPhone.

I do want one, so I’m getting it when it comes out on july 11.

I’ll be waiting in line as well. Moving from iPhone version 1 to iPhone 3G.

The iPhone is definitely the best computing device I’ve ever had and the 3G version is going to be amazingly better. They call it a phone, but it’s really a very functional mobile computer.

This is a new platform and it’s only going to get better.

Until the iPhone spits out diamonds, I still won’t buy it. Apple is making the same argument about the iPhone 3G that Sony fanboys are making about the PS3, and you can see where the PS3 has gone so far.

“The PS3 is not only a gaming system, it can also be a computer with a Linux-based OS and can also be a Blu-Ray disc player.”

Plus, these new features are something I don’t think I would use in a cell phone. I use a cell phone to talk to people and play the occasional song, and if I go an buy this phone, I don’t feel like I’d use the other features at all. If I was going to use GPS, I would rather use it on a UMPC and get more use out of it, and I’m using EVDO to get on the internet right now and post this comment. I also don’t care how fast the new phone is, if all I’m going to do is talk on it, speed won’t be much of a problem.
But that’s just me.

Yea i def. want one but don’t think I’ll have enough money by the time they’re out…I’d be happy with one of the normal ones right now actually. They do look pretty cool though.

I will definitely be getting an iPhone 3g. I did not get an iphone before because my dad is using AT%T’s EDGE network on his Blackberry and it is so so slow and since we have 3G coverage in our town i will definitely be getting one. I do not know when i will be getting one though i don’t think i want to wait out for it so i might just order it offline because I am not in that big of a hurry to get it. Keep up the good work.

I so want an iPhone 3G, it’s so cheap but awesome!

I would like to get the new iphone but I do not know if I need to pick up the extra cost for the Faster internet the GPS would be really nice as well. and the White iphone is very ****,,, hmm I think i might have just talked my self in to the new iphone ! :)

i dont really need an iPhone (mainly because it takes soo much trouble to make it work here in china) and i am perfectly ok with my phone right now
but hten again, i would love to get one =]

I love the iPhone 3G, but I hate that they are still with AT&T. I want to move to Germany, to get T-Mobile, I would if it was not AT&T, for now, I will live with it.

No, I do not want the 3G iPhone. I have the first generation iPhone and I’m happy with that. I’m not important enough to have to surf the web on my mobile device to begin with, so speed makes no difference to me. The screen, however beautiful it may be and the rendering I must say is awesome, is still small and I’ll leave the web surfing to either my desktop or notebook and my broadband connection.

I would just love to get the Ipod 3g. The only thing is…. I can’t. The reason is because i live in Canada, and they are still having problems with copyright stuff related to the name. I sure hope that they get all of this **** resolved and maybe someday…. Yes someday i may indeed finally get the beloved Iphone.

The new features of the Iphone in my opinion were essential, and probably should have been there in the first version. I’m not even sure if it has vibrate yet… Does it?

If i had the iphone, 1st gen, i would for sure get the newer operating system with the new Iphone for sure, as it has an application store etc. This is really nice that Apple has opened the field up and allowing developers in to create new apps. My hat is most certainly tipped to Apple for doing this.

Thanks

i live in the uk and currently have an iphone. for once we have got a pretty good deal over here. i will get a free iphone upgrade on july 11th all i have to do is sign up for a new 18 month contract and u can get one free if ur willing to pay 45 pound a month. so its all good except im not going to be the one of the only people with an iphone :-(

Yes, I’ll be getting one. The iPhone is so much more than a “cell phone.” It’s an entirely new platform and anyone in the tech field should remain on the leading edge of this platform, both with the iPhone OS and hardware.

Also, Dating DNA has been working on a great SDK iPhone app, which will be in the App Store when it’s launched.

Would the iphone 3g have a copy/paste features put in?

What Do You Think?
