Do you use Gmail’s New Features?

Ah, yes… Gmail. It’s the free email service from Google, that can be accessed via the Web or by using a desktop client. They give you up to 6GB of space to use, pretty much for free. That’s beyond cool. There are a ton of free services that Google offers, such as Google Docs, which we’ve discussed before. Just the other night, they introduced us to Google Labs.

So what is this new feature, exactly? When you sign in to your Gmail account (or sign up for a new one), you’ll see “New! Gmail Labs!”. This resides as a tab within your Gmail settings. This allows you to add things like plugins, add-ons, Gmail widgets and the like to your account. They’re simply “hooks” that add to your experience with Gmail. They’re going to be slowly rolling these out, to test how they are received and used. For the more popular ones, they will eventually be made into full-on Gmail settings.

In essence, you have an opportunity to shape the future of Gmail. It’s pretty much the fastest web-based email out there, but I’ve never really liked the interface. Maybe they’ll come up with some interface tweaks. Check some of these out:

  • Google Code Search – allows you to search for public source code.
  • Google Page Creator – helps you create a Web page in minutes.
  • Google Dashboard Widgets for Mac – Quickly access Google products from within Dashboard.
  • Google News Alerts – Choose a topic and receive news alerts for it.
  • Google Notebook – Clip and collect information as you browse the web.

These are only a handful of the things you’ll find to play with in Google Labs. Give it a try today!

I would like to use the lables feature in gmail wher you can have your lables on different email in different colors but its not supported in IE6. I won’t downgrade to firefox, safari, opera, or IE7 (or 8). No browsers do what 6 does for me. IMO

I love gmail, my favorite, I haven’t used the new labs thing tough, I’m pretty much lazzy and don’t have time to test the new gadgets arround.

About email clients, I am more of a web based email, I don’t like it that like if you are reading an email, and you delete it, the next one opens, and it might be spam or something, and you didn’t want to open it, so yea..

Yeah, i tried enabling google labs and now my gmail is non responsive in any mode other than html, and in html i can’t turn off google labs.

just a tip here if the tab “labs” doesn’t show in your settings menu try setting your language to English (uk) or English (us).it should show then.

i feel the same way about gmail. they dont seem to have folders, which i need. but considering its free and i have make as many accounts as i need, cant really complain too much. not too mention all the great perks of having a gmail account.

I was very disappointed. I don’t find any of the new enhancements useful at all.

I would like google mail than any other email service. But when I first created my email I went with yahoo mail. I told all my friends and family and i really can’t change it anymore. I don’t want to go through telling everyone. Probably myain reason for liking google is because it gives me free pops. Peobablyy 2nd reason is that its nice and clean. If you are starting to get an email address go with google!

Video conferencing can cut costs and improve communication but, like any other technology, it must be used properly. That means effectively dealing with holdouts and setting reasonable rules
