i have purchased several domain names thru GoDaddy and have been satisfied with their online account access and their prices but i have had one very disturbing incident:

One of the domain names I purchased thru GoDaddy to use for a political action site was named DONTBUSHIT.US
but before i could develop the site i got an email from GoDaddy to verify that i was transferring the domain name to someone else and if this was not legitimate to notify them in seven days. I notified them immediately but found that it had already been tranferred out of my control even though i contacted GoDaddy to deny it AND it had not been 7 days.
Every attempt to find out why this had happened was unsuccessful by email and by phone.
I received no refund for the domain name purchase or payment for the sale of my domain name to the anonymous transfer.
I am not paranoid but i have found that the government tries to scoop up any domain names that could be embarrassing to the present administration.
Let the buyer beware.

This was very helpful. I was a little unsure as to what "privileges" I had with my domain name. This video couldn't have come at a better time, as the following chat discussion occured this past Thursday. This is only a snippet of the chat, the most relevant to this topic...

The name of the tech (although an alias anyway) has been changed to protect his identity. The name of my domain has been changed as well.

Start chat snippet:

Me: Ok, thank you for your time. I hope I'm not running up your "average chat time" numbers here. One last question about domains. The domain I "purchased" from Globat, is it in my name or does it absolutely belong to Globat?
Me: I only ask because if the site does become popular, will Globat ever charge me an additional fee or hold my domain name "hostage" ?
Host_Tech: Yes
Host_Tech: Upon checking on the package you purchase you can add 9 free additional domains.
Me: Ok, 9 free additional domains that I can use with my web hosting. Great.
Host_Tech: yes
Me: Does the domain "whatevermydomainis" belong to me or does it belong to Globat?
Me: I only ask because I wonder if I could ever transfer that domain to another host, such as a computer running in my house
Host_Tech: Yes whatevermydomainis belongs to globat
Me: So Globat has the right to take the domain from me or charge me an additional fee at any time?
Host_Tech: yes

End chat snippet.

So thanks again for some clarification on this topic!

I just got an email that says it's from GoDaddy & informing me that I need to update the contact information for the domain names I own. They say this is required by ICANN every year. They provide a link in the email to click on in order to go to the site. Is this legit? I'm always reluctant to click on links in emails unless I know for certain that I can trust the sender.

I am hearing that GoDaddys customer service is not treating people right.
 A sorta bureaucratic nightmare.
