You certainly aren't the only couple that has a date night :P It's a popular, and smart, thing to do. Why should we date only during courtship/before marriage? The dates are likely a huge reason people chose their marriage partner to begin with! Marriage shouldn't mean ending that. It is really easy to get stuck in your own little world once you get married. So the date night is a great tradition to keep so that you always spend time, out of the house, with your spouse. AW YEAH - OUT OF THE HOUSE WITH YOUR SPOUSE BABY!!!!

Congratulations you two on making each other a priority...it is so important to get that time away and remember what it is that you love about each other; by sharing your OWN interests with your partner will allow you to grow to appreciate one another for all your differences and as a bonus you may enjoy something you never thought you would do in your life. Growing closer as a couple will only make you stronger and better parents in the future!

Just remember the rules:

1. no complaining about what the other person picked for date night/your job is to be happy camper! this is your spouse
2. no talking finances or about kids
3. no talking about any unpleasant issues in relationship
4. no asking "how much" the date is costing
5. ALWAYS make date night a priority, one person cannot cancel without a GOOD reason and w/out talking to spouse FIRST, then reschedule
6. try not to do movies...its fun once in a while, but really how much do you get to talk during a movie? this is YOUR time to connect

I'm so happy that you guys took the step...its shows your commitment to one another! Lots of love!

My husband and I have discussed having weekly dates, but as of yet haven't implemented it. We need to... we have some friends who have ten kids (that's right, TEN - from ages 1 to 19), who manage to squeeze in a weekly date night.

Date night is a long standing delight in our home. We've been dating every Friday night for 31 of our 36 years of marriage. [It took the 1st 5 years to realize that we needed alone time out of the house to make a home.]

A very good man once told me that a good marriage was created when both people ignored their own happiness and were willing to constantly seeking the other person's happiness. He was right.

Here is to a life long date!

I knew we were ready to be parents when Derek and I found ourselves having "dates" at kids' places, like the Aquarium on a Saturday afternoon. We were the only couple with no kids, or so it seemed.

No, we aren't. We got the idea from Monica and Andru. They are also date night people. Though they are smarter and chose TUESDAY as their date instead of Saturday. What the hell were we thinking? Kudoz to Monica for sharing the idea. I'll have to ask her where else they've gone so we can get more ideas. I'm thinking maybe bowling. It's been like 15 years since I've bowled!
