Cute or Stupid

Ponzi and I are dog lovers, but I don’t think we’d ever stick either one of our puppies in a knapsack and motorbike ‘em around town. For one, it’s chilly today – and we wouldn’t want our pet to get sick. Plus, what if they saw something across the street and knew that barking wouldn’t suffice? I’m not sure if what this guy did was cute or stupid. No matter, I’m glad I had my camera at the ready (at least, it was in my front pocket). The only time we do anything “cute” with our dogs is around the holidays. Wicket won’t stand for wearing sweaters – or anything other than his collar, for that matter. That child was born to be wild.

When my first dog, Colin, was a pup, I built a “cage” out of milk crates for the back rack of my Honda scooter. I put one on top of the other and wired them so that one side was hinged. He sat inside and loved riding around town with me. He was, however, fully contained and couldn’t leap out. The dog in that picture looks a bit too unsecured.
He rode with me to the radio station every day, and even helped pick out jazz albums to play. He was a great little jazz lovin’, bike ridin’ Keeshond.

Chris: I’d worry about the little fella, but in the spirit of beneficial doubt-giving, it’s possible his owner has to take him to the vet, and that’s the only means of transportation available.

I vote that as a really BIG stupid! Equally stupid are the people who put their dog in the bed or the pickup… no leashes, no cages… and then drive around like wild people while the poor pup gets pinballed around in the back. Even BIGGER on the stupid scale.

I saw something worse this afternoon, but I didn’t have my camera on me. A guy passed me on his Harley. On the gas tank was a pillow. On that was a little dog like in your picture, without a harness or way to secure the dog that I could see.

I couldn’t believe it. Gerald, I completely agree with you on the pickup truck thing.
