Continuing the Conversation
I wrapped up my third experience on the Redmond campus this evening. Most of the discussions today were under NDA, so I can't regurgitate the juicy details. It was an overwhelmingly positive experience, but I'm walking away slightly disappointed. Seems that there's no centralized coordination at Microsoft for these types of summits – for MVPs or workaday enthusiasts. It's largely up to individual divisions to craft mini-cons for their most vocal supporters – for the very people who can provide the most valid feedback and guidance on future efforts. Sad, it's really sad. I've seen so much success and good will spring from doing 'em in the past. I truly believe that they need to arrange a similar event for Internet Explorer / Outlook Express soon. Not doing so would be a grave mistake. I would be more than happy to offer up a list of names that should be there to (quite honestly) rip 'em a new one. I don't trust focus groups – I'm confident they're to blame for every other craptacular product on the market today.
