Computers, Freedom & Privacy
The Computers, Freedom & Privacy Conference celebrates it’s 15th year in 2005. This year’s conference explored surveillance societies and their impact on the Internet focusing on the impact of data mining and sharing of personal information in a globally accessible public space. Fair use as it applies to our ability to use commercially released media was another major theme addressed by organizations like the EFF and performers like Negativland’s Mark Hosler. We talked to Deborah Pierce, the Chair of CFP2005, about her role in planning the conference, some of the history of CFP and her own efforts as President of PrivacyActivism, a non-profit organization whose goal is to enable people to make well-informed decisions about the importance of privacy on both a personal and societal level.
