I am surprised how long it is taking them to burn out. I think the next time a regular bulbed fixture is cleaned I will replace it anyway.I live in a colder area and regular fluorescent lights used outdoors take even longer than usual to light after being turned on. You get used to it. I had one break, luckily not in my hand, as I tried to screw in a regular cover that was just too tight. The bulb glass is really thin, even more so than a regular bulb.I don't know if it is an urban myth or not but I have heard fluorescents are hazardous as regular land fill, I'm sure that has been looked at by our government which has set a deadline in 5 years or so to ioutright ban incandescent bulbs. I use three warm bulbs to 1-2 cool to balance out the color cast. The Panasonic GenIV bulbs give the most pleasing light of any of the ones I've tried.
