L.A has Starsucks on every corner. Really. It's sickening that people drink that crap. One time I bought a bag of beans from them, and they failed every test of a good bean from Coffeekid.com.
When I was at Peet's, the counter help were a little baffled, as to why I was so damn excited about being there. Here are some pics of me there.

I was in SF a while ago and could not find Peet's anywhere, all I saw were Starbucks. I ended up drinking coffee that tasted like piss run through a coffee filter all week, I will have to look a little harder for Peet's next time.

I drove past the other Peet's in Pasadena, but it was closed. The Peet's on Ventura was very close to the apartment where I was staying.
I didn't see the Coffee Roaster, sorry. However, I did try the CoffeeBean on Ventura and was disappointed. It tasted like burnt toast.
I would say Peet's is at least 100x's better than Starsucks.

Peet's is a great company with a long tradition to uphold, but –you know — there's some other great coffee spots in Los Angeles.
Try The Coffee Roaster, on Ventura in Sherman Oaks. They mainly retail roasted beans — but they serve some of LA's best espresso.
Or how 'bout Caffe Latte, on Olympic near Fairfax. Also a roaster, and they serve a full meal, as well as coffee.
And don't forthet the *other* Peets [Santa Monica, Beverly Hlls, Studio City, Pasadena].
Try a ristretto…

I was up in SF about a month ago, and stopped in to Peets Coffee (since Chris raves about it, I figured Id drop in) and I must say its three times better than starbucks..(am I allowed to say that here? haha:)) I got a bag for home to share with friends and family. Its the best..your right!!

Mental note to myself… Don't stroll up to Martin S. on stage and ask, “Do you know Chris Pirillo in person?”
Of course, it's much better than asking him if he knows Miss Cleo the telephone astrologist. And why would I watch Leo and Patrick chalk-talk the origins of UNIX? It excites me.

By the way – I got excited when I saw Martin on the stage at SXSW on Tuesday. Not because it was Martin, but because he knows YOU. Live & in person. I was quite jealous and would have told him so if he hadn't been on stage listening to stories of geeks with gum on their ass. Oops. Did I say ass on your blog?
