CNN Live Tech Gets a Little Geeky
First, let me thank Mark, Lila, Valerie, Michael and others - who have been quite instrumental in making things happen. Mark’s been coming to Gnomedex for the past couple of years, and I’ve only met the others over the phone. I’m sure this particular “thank you” list will grow over time.
Thanking them for what, exactly?
I’ve been invited to share technology tips and tricks on CNN.com Live (CNN Video) every Thursday at 5:30pm Eastern - however that translates into your own schedule. They’re going to lift my video feed and pump it directly into their production studio. I’ll be “embedded,” literally - a regular guest / host / content person on their Web network.
The content, as you can imagine, will be consumer-centric (read: friendly for novices) - and each weekly segment will be roughly three-minutes in length. You can help, too - with your own suggestions, questions, short lists, etc. Initially, it’s going to be streamed without any additional elements (chat will not be present). It’s good to know that some traditional media networks are taking Web content seriously.
The first ‘cast will happen next Thursday, March 6th. Set a weekly reminder in your calendar - or watch my Twitter feed for insta-updates. Of course, my video is always live, too - somewhere on the Web. Hey, I wonder if we could break a world’s record with being the most embedded live video on the Web?

This is proof that Chris Pirillo will eventually have his own channel that is streamed from his own house called CPN and will showcase his entire life in HD. People will pay for a “Geek Package” that will contain a 24 hour TWiT channel, a channel of exclusively TechTv reruns and CPN. The channel will eventually get over taken by Rupert Murdoch who will buy the rights to “E ya later” and Chris will be a multi-millionare geek who gets to stream his life over 14 Fios connections and will eventually buy and destroy Comcast.

Congratulations Chris! It’s rare that I make a blog comment, but I’d like to know whether the tech segments on CNN.com will get recorded for youtube or something for on-demand viewing?

Please show people how to resize pictures and insert them into Outlook Express.
Also I know it is very basic but if you could show people how to copy and paste things into an e-mail.
Good luck with the show!

so you got back on the tv. great, been trying to get you there for a long time.
the other channel don’t even get anymore emails. the old 3 mainstays are getting to lax in updating anything.
just why the ones i been trying to get you on are so blind as to not get you at their network is unknown. but i am sure you would have boosted the rating of their hurting nightly news show.
still don’t know why the other channel did not talk with you. i’ll have to write them and say see i told you to get him.
maybe they will also decide to pick up your feed? can always hope you get on all the channels .

Hi Chris, Computer users everywhere need your help! I know, because they need mine. I’m a busy tech support guy/ expert and the 2 things which I hope you will touch on while you are getting such great exposure is:
1. PEOPLE, your browser is your Internet Explorer! They don’t know what a browser is and they don’t know that they are supposed to be able to go directly to a website rather than being pushed through search engine results. So, tell people that they should set their browser settings so that when they type a website address into their browser address field they can go directly to that site!
2. Most people’s system updates are set to 3am by default but many are not getting the updates because their computers are not on the internet at that time.
So, tell them to reset that time.
I have a bunch of super simple things that I hope you can broadcast to the U.S. average computer user. For example; LEARN TO TURN DOWN YOUR INTERNET SECURITY TOO! Duh? Right?
Have fun in the “big time”.
Best wishes,
Joseph

For ashow not stepping toes is to speak about Apple & PCs. PC users are always talking about, bugs, viruses and everything else that haunts PCs
On the other hand Apple owners NEVER talk about Apple issues. Is this because Apple has no problems?

as a retired enineer, I recognise the need for understanding the many new acronyms, technical words and phrases that are coming into existence every week in info dealing with computer technology. Please present a short blurb as to the sources that exist on the web(with printable copy) and what published booklets are available for purchase; such a Barron’s Dictionary of Computer and Internet terms which rapidly become out of date as new terms appear so rapidly. My ability to understand computer literature is often hampered by my inability to look up a definition. Any advice that you can provide will be appreciated.

Please use this opportunity to mention Free Libre Open Source Software, as an alternative…
Most people in the general public either don’t know about FLOSS, or are afraid of it…
Now is the time to educate them a bit…
Show them the way to Freedom…

A good one for young or old - how many times have you been asked by parents or friends of parents to set up their new computer? Need to go into a summation of what junk you can safely get rid of when buying a new laptop / desktop. The manufacturer will load so much @$%^ - it would be nice for the older generation to know what they really don’t need!
