Cleaning House

A mini-FAQ was distributed in yesterday's Windows Daily newsletter regarding my departure from TechTV. Please review it (and if Lockergnome.com is still loading slow for you, understand that we're in the process of ordering a new server to handle the increased traffic). I'm off to review my new DVD player, so… if you haven't already subscribed, you'd better do it before this evening. I even put a fancy little subscription box on my blog for your convenience. Please tip your waiter.

Yeah but why aren't you on CFH anymore? *sends 20 more emails asking variations of same question*

I have a fealing that Chris isn't going to answer.

fealing should = feeling. geez

=) An answer isn't really wanted.

Has it already been answered? I need a break from my isolation I guess . . .

New DVD! COOL! Wonder what make? Got my Apex really cheap, then discovered it was the most hackable DVD player on the market.
I'm now region free, macrovision free, and RCE free… WOOHOO! And because I'm not in the US, NO DMCA nonsense! It's not illegal for me to do what I want to hardware I buy…

Hmmmm….seems to me the people who have loyally watched your show and are “directly” responsible for your former paycheck, have a right to an explanation. Apparently the mystery is working for your website hit counter though. I personally think it's lame to leave everyone hanging but it's your call obviously…

Uncle Cracker, hey! Leave the guy alone! It is funny but when you are a famous people think you are their best friend and that they 'own' you. My days in Radio were full of people who were my 'best friends'. Anyway, thanks for the links Chris, and Steve, those APEX are such a great deal! I love mine more than my Sony. Glad you are well Chris, keep up the good work, and don't fall into nasty comments about TechTV etc. As you said that is very unprofessional. Have a great day folks. Mark 'HipOldGuy' Taylor

well i just read what people are trying to get to know why ur not on call for help. well i stoped watching the show it's dosen't have the same feeling after u left but sometime i log on to the web page to see what cat is up to time to time. so this is for you chris i hope this work out for you and when the comes the world well know your story and dont care about those nasty comment about techtv ect people in this world like to be dumb asses. well later days A.k.A. kakrott (scott)

Eh, techtv blows. I cancelled my digital cable last week and the cable peeps came by today replace my box with the non digital one-is that analog? Anyway, I saved 20 dollars on my cable bill now. Money I can use to 'tip' the waiter. Okay, Chris wheres the Paypal icon?

Chris wrote: “I've got 335 messages in my Inbox to deal with today - most of those e-mails are relating to my temporary move away from television. 'What happened to you on 'Call For Help?'' I can't tell you right now. 'When do you think you may be able to reveal what happened?' I don't know. 'Are you going to be back on 'Call for Help?' No. 'Was it the hair thing?' Not to my knowledge; I was given permission for both the dye and the cut by my series producer. 'Is Chris contractually prevented from discussing his leaving the show?' Not necessarily. It's just not professional to discuss these matters with people who aren't directly involved. In time, I'm confident that all answers will be revealed.”
Gee Chris…you sound about as believable as the Iraqi spokesman who goes on television claiming Coalition forces are being forced out of the country…even as the building he is in is surrounded by hundreds of U.S. soliders and troops.
Hmm…come to think of it…the Iraqi spokesman is still on television…guess he has more credibility than you do Chris.

This from luckedcompany.com and internalmemos.com :
TechTV
TechTV just canned about 20 employees, including some on-air people. Pirillo (also of Lockergnome fame) no longer hosts Call For Help, and Fresh Gear (Mmmmm… Sumi Das…..) ground into Tech Live. Here's the internal memo. Is whats-her-face in this picture still there? Hope so.
When: Apr 02 2003 07:11PM
Company: TechTV
From: Greg Brannan
We are making good progress toward the exciting new dayparting strategy we announced earlier this year. Our line-up has expanded to 21 programs, up from 13 just one year ago, and staffing for “Unscrewed with Martin Sargent” and the new “X-Play” is underway.
I also wanted to make you aware of changes intended to increase our production efficiencies around “Call For Help” and “Fresh Gear.” Beginning tomorrow, the “Call For Help” and “The Screen Savers” teams will combine to form a single production unit. In addition to co-hosting “The Screen Savers,” Leo Laporte will return as the host of “Call For Help.” Likewise, “Fresh Gear” will now be produced out of Tech Live, with Sumi Das continuing as host of “Fresh Gear.”
Those directly impacted by these changes have been notified. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Peter Hammersly, Carolyn Kane, Paul Block or myself.

Well Chris, it's been odd at work without you around, but I'm glad to hear that things with Gnomdex are going well … good luck and it goes without saying that folks at work miss ya! Lates ;-)

I strongly oppose the methods used by TechTV in their dayparting (?) campaign. It plain sucks and is wrong. These people were/are family and they should be treated with respect, as should the viewers who have formed a virtual connection with them. Big corporation or small business, people should be treated with respect. Don't get miffed at Mr. Pirillo's choice to not discuss exact reasons of departure, get POed at the people responsible.
Unscrewed with who? Enough said.

Chris, two words:
Gnome T.V.
Think about it :)

After lurking around Mr. Pirillo’s blog here I can’t seem to stop from boggling over all the people wanting the “truth behind the parting from TechTV. Have we all learned nothing from 24-hour television news networks? We don’t the “truth. All we need is unfounded speculation and rumor presented as truth. I heard that it had something to do with a lizard…
Seriously though, what we have here is a gentleman taking the high road and IÂ’m fine with that. If we learn at some point it will be interesting, but IÂ’m not holding my breath.

So your saying that you just really can't say what exactly was said to make you say that you and techtv are parting ways. Is that safe to say?

I thihk it's safer to say that Chris is very much enjoying the “game” and the hits it is creating for lockergnome.com. It's all about marketing and has nothing to do with professionalism.

Ha! You guys crack me up.

If you ask me, I think what chris is doing is quite stupid, all its getting is a bunch of hits on his website. I agree with Uncle Cracker 100%. Its lame to leave everyone hanging like that. I used to like Chris alot, but after about a year, Ive totally relized he uses everything to make a couple bucks, even us. Im boycotting this whole Chris Pirillo-money making-lets-fool-everyone-into-thinking-im going-to-tell-retarded-scheme.

Im boycotting this whole Chris Pirillo-money making-lets-fool-everyone-into-thinking-im going-to-tell-retarded-scheme. This Gnomedex thing is stupid, 99 bucks for a ticket!! Jesus! Id rather go to a NASCAR race, it would be more fun and cheaper, without scamming everyone.

Oops, that wasnt supposed to be posted twice, ignore the first one.

And if my IP Address gets blocked, looks like it would prove my point, he doesnt care about any of us, just our money.

Lance, doesn't it seem a little, ahem, hypocritical to be reading and *posting* in the blog of some you're 'boycotting'.
Like him, don't like him, read his blog or not - it's your choice.

And I would go further, you simply have no right to 'know' what happened - simply because you watch a TV show or read a newsletter. If Chris Pirillo were doing something or acting in some way incosistently between his on-screen persona and his off-screen persona then maybe you can question that - but otherwise the entertainment (and yes, that's what part of it is) business is just kind of weird like that. Watching a show doesn't give the viewers ownership rights. If they want that, they could always drop by the garden centre and buy a ceramic gnome for the garden. ;-)

Maybe we're onto something here. Small Chris Pirillo figures. I wonder if they would sell? My financial problems are over, I'll have to see about that booth at Gnomedex! …..

Just sad to see you go on cfh. It was the only show I tivo'd on techtv. Hope your onto bigger and better things!

DUDE, CFH isnt goin to be the same man, bottom line, Corprate: |

Corprate Tech TV blows.

is that how you spell it? o_O

yah he aint going to answer a question like that… he emailed me saying something and I emailed him again, says the same. We will see him on TV again but when we wont know til he says “Thunder Birds are go”

Jeeze………lighten up foks. I think the more important question is if tomorrow is no pants Friday again :-)

I don't understand… how is it anyone's business? Chris is no longer an employee of TechTV… the end.

No explanations are necessary. We don't own Chris. If we did though I know I'd have better stuff…

I couldn't find the mini-FAQ … oh well. I can hardly bare to watch anymore. I loved seeing Chris's nutty antics. Leo's boring (methinks he thinks he knows more than he does). Cat's good, though, so I suppose that's enough. I'll be sure to watch for you though, Chris, on The Thunderbirds :)

Though Leo is great (I'm a huge Screen Savers Fan), he just doesn't fit the sho in my opinion. Of course he used to host it but that was before i started watching. I've always watched Chris and I thought he was great and made the show fun with all his energy, and i learned alot from CFH.But a least he will have more time to post on the blog and more time for lockergnome and that new file of the day site(very cool!). Keep up the good work Chris!

I never said we own him, or we have to know his business. All I meant was keeps telling us that hes going to tell why he left, but instead all he says is is the samething everytime. Plus he didnt tell us anything we already didnt know, if you read the blog regularly. And he makes up some of the stupidest thngs Ive heard, for example “I've gotta go work on a super top secret project that's so secret… even I don't know what it is.”

OK, You host a show. For reasons you have no control over it is cancelled.
Do you bad mouth the sho, its creators, its staff, and kill you rep as a nice guy, and any and all bridges back to said station??
Or Suck it up, keep your mouth shut, and hope for the best??
Maybe its me, Im shutting up and hoping Tech TV has a new show called “The Gnome”, and I am primed to host it.
Hes doing what you do, you take one for the team and hope for the best.
Good luck Chris!

I live in Israel and
I've got to admit it was Chris Pirillo's amazing charisma that got me to watch Tech TV. I think CFH is still a great show but it was Chris that made it extraordinary! I hope to see you back on TV soon, man. It's where you belong! I for one think it's no one's business why Chris left except his own. Good luck Chris!
