See if your DVD player can be hacked... many can be hacked to allow you to skip over those sections that-- out of the box-- they try to force you to sit through. This is called removing "UOPs" and sometimes also include changing soundtracks and forcing off subtitles that are set to always be on...

I don't understand business. You see the MPAA moan everyone is downloading movies from the internet yet they put 5+ minutes of adverts on before a film which I paid £6 (about $12!) to see!! I don't mind future films or 1 or 2 adverts if it is like the Orange Mobile adverts about phones being turned off while watching the movie, but not generic adverts! Then they go and put adverts on DVDs and complain about DVD sales being down! It isn't rocket science! I have returned over 10 DVDs because they had adverts which I was unable to skip past using my DVD player. I don't mind so much if I can skip them but if they force me to watch them then I will return the DVD, after all it is my right.
I now refuse to go to the cinema to see a film. I don't want to pay over £6 to watch adverts which makes the film makers millions. They are basically forcing people to pirate films :(

Would you believe in many DVDs edited in Argentina they use the legal notice area (that one you just can't fast forward) to inject unavoidable adds? Some people have no limits.

We came to the same conclusion a few years ago, although it was unrelated even to the ads. We have a great sound system at home... more even and predictable than the movie theater (when was the last time you got a volume control remote at the movies?), and a great quality picture.
Oh, and tickets here are NINE dollars now. That's nuts.
That's why we go to maybe 2 or 3 movies a year, at the most, and instead concentrate on collecting DVDs.

From: tmbgiantz
I must say I am extremely happy to be living in small town USA when it comes to this point. Our movies are $4.50 adults, $3.00 for kids. One movie screen, one movie played each week. And when you go, and it's a real good movie, people clap during the good parts and at the end, in appreciation. No, we don't have the greatest sound system, and the screen is not as big as the huge movie plex screens, but to me it is a movie going experience the way it should be: Fun and entertaining.

Yeah, those new ads that play in movie theaters now are annoying. Especially when you get there early, and they play over, and over, and over again in a continuous loop.

I don't understand why people don't enjoy going to the movies anymore... the sticky floors... the cell phones ringing... the crying babies... the people that sit directly in front of you with hair like marge simpson... the outragous ticket prices... people kickin your chair... long lines... the tub o'popcorn you pick up at the concession stand that you can trade for your own kidney...
Let them show advertisments... who knows what interesting products i may learn about before the movie begins... the experience builds character i say... can't wait for the loan office they build next to the ticket booth, so i may watch garfield AND buy a slushee (for a small down payment)...

For me, there hasn't been a single movie so far that has interested me. Maybe the documentary Fog of War. Hey Chris, do what I do: Turner Classic Movies 24/7 :)

I would have to agree. I went and saw The Day After Tomorrow at the first of the month and could not get over the ads. If I want to watch commericals then I will sit at home instead of paying to see them.
