Chris Pirillo's Brain Trust

In the movie, “Enemy of the State,” Gene Hackman's character said to his companion: “You're either very smart or incredibly stupid.” After taking a look at one of my new projects, you'll probably say the same thing to me. Enterprising individuals already know about it, but I'm officially unveiling a new service today. It's
Chris Pirillo's Brain Trust, and by the end of this evening, we'll be launching the list with at least 20 charter members. The subscription fee is real, and I plan on making it worth every penny. People ask me how I do what I do – and how they can do the same. Honestly? All it takes is a little bit of energy and a couple of good ideas. If you're an Internet entrepreneur who understands the value of networking, then I'd love to have you aboard. Anybody else? You're welcome, too.

GoDaddy Web hosting plans are now more powerful than ever. Best of all, their plans start at just $3.95/month! Wow. While I'm not at the point yet to join, I think this is a great idea and has real promise.

So this wasn't a deal where they remove Chris' brain and place it in a trust? Damn!

Argggghhh… it's a Brain Damage… Welcome to the club. Now, where's my piggy bank…

Best wishes with your endeavor, Chris. I think it's a great idea, and anticipate greatness.
If all else fails, you could do one of those “donate money to me” sites… /bonk

I hope you make some good coin with this new endeavour Chris. I'll personally get my info. from Google. It always leads me to something useful.(and it's free)

“I'll personally get my info. from Google.” But that is SO not what it's about… It's about real time, it's about creating connections, the banter, the brainstorming, the network, the explosion of ideas that happens when you put people who “get it” together. I'm so there.

no jodie its about making money….Everything he has been doin since he got the boot from tech tv has been some sort of money making scheme…..ask chris for 27 bucks(ill ask google for free) a buck a month for chris mobile pics(ill go to babes4free fer nuttin) now its a elite newsgroup that he's gonna charge almost 100 bucks a month for….man it must have killed him when he got the boot from tech tv….is this the big thing he left tech tv for????

Hi Rod – No, I think Chris is on to bigger and better things, personally ;-) I'll agree with you on one thing – yes, it's about making money; but not in the way – and for who – you think. I'm lucky enough to belong to another elite by-invite-only internet entrepreneurs group and I tell you – the price for what Chris is creating is peanuts compaired to what you'd have to spend in consulting fees to get the same help/advice and connections. While I, too, have had thoughts of “whoa, DUDE… enough with the new ways of getting paid” a couple of times – anyone who has followed Chris for a while knows that he just explodes with energy and ideas – he sees something that could be done, he wants to try it (visions of RentMyChest.com anyone?). Having had the opportunity to get to know more about him and his business practices – he likes to try things, and we should be very thankful he does – this makes him more knowledgeable about how the internet works, where it's going and how to do it – then *we* get to benefit after. How many of us can say we have the energy and drive to do that? Once TechTV was no more – all of a sudden he had the time to really create. We are seeing several years of pent-up Chris energy here folks – hang on – it's going to be a wild ride ;-)

the idea is great but: I am from another country, I dont enough money.

That's OK. I'm from this country and I don't have enough money. ;-)

decent idea, a good deal of money…may price himself out of the market…if there is a market for this type of thing.
any chance of a free trial period so that one could acertain how valuable the content would be?
now if this flies, I just had an idea that would make him even more money. ahh, if I didn't have the attention span of a fruit fly. ;-)

I was reading over 'My Brain Trust' and had no idea that Chris was on radio? Where you a DJ?

*Were not where my bad…

Jeeez this place is getting worse than the home shopping network. If geeks are starting to view the net as only a moneymaking oportunity, then I guess there truly is no hope left.

Oh, how I wish I had the funds. Well, I actually do have the funds, but not being a “internet entreprenaur” full time, I can't decide if I can justify it. *sigh* But I want to. Oh, how I want to…
Can you cancel sooner than 6 months if it's not what you need in the long run?

Love ya man but to pricey for me! I do hope it goes well for you though.

Sounds like a geek-fueled think tank and more. Best of luck with it. If there is a man who can make it work it's you.

There's one born every minute. what a Husker he has become! Someone give him a buck just so he shuts up about money already! I mean he started as a great guy that wanted to help people, but because he was terrible on TechTV and got the boot, he seems desperate to try and regain some notoriety. Too bad he will now only be known for “Show Chris the money!” Pretty sad to see how low he has fallen. Now he is running around like a chicken with his head chopped off. I mean if you need money this badly, try cutting back on expenses. Make a budget. Stick to it. Don't go and Prostitute yourself man. You used to be cool. Now you are just sad.

Hurry, someone tell him that the dotcom bubble had a slight burst about 3 years ago. While the business model for lockergnome may be able to support itself through advertising, Chris does not provide “high dollar” advice. He provides information that is readily available on the internet and/or Barnes and Noble. I would say that he should package himself as a trainer as opposed to a technical visionary.

Count me in as another skeptic. I'm sorry but, if it looks too good to be true, sounds too good to be true, then guess what? It's too good to be true. Sure you can pick a few testimonials out of a thousand that say it changed their lives for the better — even in a MLM or Ponzi scheme type of venture, you can find people willing to give these testimonials. I'm not saying your model is a pyramid scheme/scam, I'm merely pointing out that it sounds too good to be true — not everyone can be successful just by “knowing” the right people. Look, I've got burned before (see http://www.tokyojoe.com ), so I'm real cautious now. Lastly, I'd like to close with this question/comment: Will everyone joining the discussion board sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) form? Who's to say that I (with little capital and clout) after having posted a great idea, won't be shafted by people on the “board” with deeper pockets and wider networks? Food for thought. I hope your intentions for this venture is in the right place — i.e. to cultivate ideas and to help those who thought of them, and not just to make money.

ok, i gotta know, why $97? … why not $69 or $99?????

What you going to sell next Chirs? Space on your wife? What about your hair? I hear that you can get some decent cash from selling your blood. You should try that. Maybe setup the Chris Pirillo Blood Trust and get all the “big thinkers” (you know who I mean, only those people smart enough to believe your BS) to donate blood for cash and send you the money! Example: I donated 10 pints in 3 months and it CHANGED MY LIFE…I died! :( -Dunderhead, Des Monies, IA

Veronica, people pay $49.99 or $99.99 for a product. When have you gone to a professional, i.e. a doctor and your cost was $29.99? Never. Services usually have costs that end in “3″ or “7″ to make it look a bit classier.

20 charter members, ALL who didn't have to pay to sucker in the rest of the people. What a freaking joke. Man, are you smokin crack? Get into rehab Chris and stop trying to rip people off!

e dawg, LOL yea Chris (rent my chest) Pirillo is classy and/or like a physician. Does he even have a college degree?

Chris looks awesome, I know little about these things so I can imagine the price of a real consultant, and only guess that your price is like givin it away, but when it comes to these things on the internet I want the money to be flowing in my direction not anyone elses. Sorry man, I'll stick to my 9-5 and let the movers annd shakers pay $100.

I thought Chris Pirillo was the confused homosexual in several Gregg Araki Films. Loved the shower scene in 'Nowhere', and I thought 'The Weekend' was great even though it wasn't a Gregg Araki Film. I was wondering if you thought you were becoming 'Typecast'??? I have loved your work until now. Perhaps it's not too late, I'm sure Mr. Araki would agree, because I don't understand this line of thinking. Sorry can't do your Gnomedex Gig because The White Stripes are on tour at the same time…

I'm still not sure what the content will be. I've found much of Chris' information to be reviews of brand new products that are nice-to-haves, but not essentials to me. I guess it comes down to the question of theory versus reality – what real situations will this Brain Trust assist me in?

Chris and his wife need to make a living and I am sure he doesn't have time to answer or cure everybody's problems and needs. Give the guy a break, no I can't afford this or really need this at the moment, but I have found his advice to solid when he was on tech tv and I have no reason to believe it would change now.Again if I could afford this I would do it so go easy on the man. HANG IN THERE CHRIS*************

I pick incredibly stupid

Chris hater TWITS need to chill … Chris is having fun w/stuff he loves before the “next” thing happens … don't be so quick to judge, cause you same “twits” will be kissing his a** when you see what he has cooking … “here in Hollywood” … let a geek have some fun of what he truly enjoys before he is so busy he doesn't have a moment for himself!

I still think $69.69 would be a good amt to charge e dawg! just for the scandal of course….!!!!!!! ;-) Next thing ya know, they'd say he's doing porn tho … boy how stories get twisted!

I wish I had the guts and energy chris had in actually going out and try things that could make me money, but that in the end just stay in my head… hope that made sense go chris!

While I will not be one of the people joining this, I can see several reasons for such a venture. First off, it really is a way of “thinning the herd”. I'm sure that the Internet A- and B-list get tired of randoms constantly asking for input, feedback and support. This project offers a forum in which the randoms are culled, somewhat–If someone is willing to pay over $500, then they are probably pretty serious about what they are doing, and thus won't be wasting the “important people”'s time. Secondly, would any of us be complaining so very vocally if it were a country club (which many people join JUST FOR SUCH NETWORKING OPPORTUNITES and at much the same costs)? That's pretty much how I view it, really. Finally, while I do feel that there has been a shift in tone since the early days, that happens in most journalistic endeavours (ROLLING STONE springs to mind). I think it is just far more disillusioning for some because Chris, like most online writers, always took such a personal tone, thus making it feel as if you were getting to know him personally–when the fact is, his life is exactly that, HIS life, not necessarily what we perceive it to be. *shrug* Each idea will only stand as long as people pay, after all :)

Wow… I get chills reading that Brain Trust site… Chris has so many ideas, and so much potential… I salute you… p/s: Where can I get a fully geekified Chris Pirillo poster to hang in my room? For inspirational purposes of course! :)

hell i know why dont you start a pyramid scheme…or maybe a pool on when gretchen is gonna fart next…i totally agree with the majority chris used to be on my list of one of the last of the good guys in geek speak but he has sold out as well….next thing yo know he will be on david lawrence's radio promoting this sorta shit…ohh wait that was last week.

Seriously. I prefer live one-on-200 tech chats in the #lockergnome channel for support. Quicker, cleaner, and free.
Nice ideas, Chris, but not really a plus vote from me… unless us longtime channel goers and loyal followers get free subscription. ^_-

I personally don't need this services for any reason. I think its a good idea. Chris is just trying to pay bills just like the rest of us. I don't for once think Chris is a sell out. If he was a sell out he'd be making us pay to read this damn blog and his newsletter on top of it.
Chris your a good guy and I still love ya man!! ; )

So I'm wondering how people are going to fill after they paid $600.00 for 6 months of a dead mailing list. Stuff like this really doesn't work. Also some one mention signing a NDA, this would have to be #1 on my list before I even considered joining something like this. To many people out there are in it for them selves and wouldn't think twice about stealing someones idea.
Chris, you were fun to watch, but I never got anything out of your show, maybe I was a step above your show knowledge wise. But I just don't see me needing advice from you =/ sorry guy. but good luck anyways.

I guess I'm missing something here. Because many people are reacting as if the cost for joining is a “cost for tech support”….when really, as I stated earlier, it's more for networking purposes (if I understand it correctly) and finding like-minded individuals who have access to technology and funding to bring things about…. Totally different thing there…

Linuxnut hit the nail on the head. The major weakness for this business model is the lack of protection for intellectual property. I happen to belong to a “think-tank” like this, and our mutual protection was to incorporate, making the participants the controlling body. This has worked quite well for us. I think Chris would do better calling it a consultancy service, and approach each project individually, perhaps incorporating each project separately. Good luck on your endeavours Chris. Just remember to cover your ass, 'casue no one else is gonna be looking out for you!
