We use Mercury through our local broker. So far, they are the cheapest (for Southern California anyway) that I have found — especially since two young adults in college are on the policy.

I live in Washington State, and have had very good expierences with GEICO, over time I more than doubled my liability coverage limits, added uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, and my rates continued to go downwards, I now pay about 95 cents per day, less than when I first started with the legal minimums here. Not a bad deal considering the value of a buck nowadays.

Another good point for GEICO is their website was the only one I found at the time that gave you an option to explain why you might not already have current car coverage when you first apply, (in my case, it was the end of summer, and I said that I had been driving my Goldwing all summer, since motorcycles in WA don't require mandatory liability coverage here), anyways, they didn't seem to penalize me (very much) for not having it at the time.
