The music sounds great, doesn’t it? You’d never guess I’m listening to my iPhone, using external speakers, would you? The sound is very rich and deep. I was using Pandora to choose what to listen to, by the way. Those speakers kick, don’t they? The LiveSpeakrs were designed for the iPod or iPhone, but they’ll work with any device that has an audio out jack.

You can use the LiveSpeakrs in either portrait or landscape mode. They easily spin around to work with your audio device, no matter what way you are holding it. There’s also a nice little stand on the back, so that you can set them on your desk and listen while surfind the web or doing your work.

You won’t regret grabbing a pair of these for yourself. The sound quality is just excellent, and they’re very portable. You can throw them in your carryon when you travel, or into your laptop bag when you’re on the go during the daytime. Never suffer from bad quality sound again! Of course, I’ll be using mine frequently! You’ll see them in upcoming videos when I am demonstrating anything that has sound to it on my iPhone.

You may have an iPod, or may get one in the future. When you buy a new one, getting your data off the old one is a bit of a challenge. You could cry yourself to sleep at night, or use an easy solution to get the data off the old one!

Using Pod to PC, it’s easy to pull the data off of your old iPod or iPhone. It is freeware that lets you transfer music, videos and playlists from an iPod or iPhone back to your computer and into iTunes. Additionally, you can recover your music in iTunes after your computer crashes by transferring the music on your iPod or iPhone back to your computer!

Of course, for you Mac users, there is Pod to Mac!! It’s exactly the same concept, by the same people. It’s just made to work on OS X instead of Windows. How beautiful is that?!

This service is completely and 100% free! It’s not the most beautiful utility I’ve ever seen, but it gets the job done very well. That is what matters, right? Bookmark this site – I guarantee you’re going to wonder how you ever managed without it.

Chris, Scott Lencl here (scolen3 to the chat room). I came across some pretty amazing technology I thought you would like to see, or listen to in this case. Its called holophonics, a type or binaural audio recording. Basically, two microphones placed on a dummy humans head, and recorded on two separate channels. The sound is enhanced is some special software that gives the illusion of sound in 3D space, most notably the up and down axis, though your brain does most of the work. It only works if you wear headphones, and make sure you have a good amount of volume to give it a more realistic effect.

This morning, CNET reported that Skype is officially coming to the iPhone in a few days. I’m impressed, but not really thrilled. I usually keep Skype open on my desktop, but prefer to use it for video calls only – which you won’t be able to do on the iPhone, so… whatever. On the other hand, if you’re an iPod Touch user, this is HUGE news.

I love when you let me know about killer software:

My name is Andrew Portess (also known as portessa when in your chat room as well as part of the community at geeks.pirillo.com). I saw the video you did on the 19th about David Crandall, who I agree has great talent as a musician. I also create my own music but my reason for e-mailing you today was to recommend some music software I read about recently in Sound On Sound Magazine, a UK magazine for musicians and sound engineers.
The software I’m referring to is called Ardour and is a FREE Digital Audio Workstation available for Mac OS X and various distributions of Linux. I am sorry to say that I have not tried Ardour myself, however from what I have learnt about it, Ardour seems to have similar capabilities to other music-making software such as Logic, Cubase or Pro Tools, none of which are free.
The software can be freely downloaded and learnt about at the official website ardour.org/ – it is worth noting Ardour doesn’t come with any plugins to increase functionality however, there is a section of the site, that lists a wide range of ones that are available, as well as links to the sites where they can be downloaded.
As I said, I have not tried Ardour though I am certainly looking forward to doing this in the future as I am considering buying my first Mac! I just thought I’d pass this on in case anyone was looking for what looks to be a very sophisticated way to freely record and edit your own music!

Stealing it is not the way to get an HDTV. If you don’t know where to start, we have some tips sent in by DellMan94 to help you know what to look for when buying a new HDTV. HD is here to stay, that’s for sure. I know you cannot go back once you’ve used an HDTV.

See it for yourself. If you have the opportunity to walk into a showroom and watch the television in action – and play with the remote – take it! The more you research by actually experiencing one, the better off you’ll be.
Buy for your needs. In other words, buy the TV that is most suited for how and where you’ll be using it. Keep in mind, if you’ll be in an environment with controlled lighting, you can get whatever you want. If you’ll have low lighting, be aware of the type of screen on the TV you purchase.
Don’t forget about the sound! Check out the speakers, and see how it sounds. You may even want to consider buying external speakers.
Use the best connections. Use quality cable – even Fiberoptic if possible! Don’t skimp on the cables. The better quality you buy, the better your viewing experience will be.
NEVER take advice from a salesperson. Don’t listen to what they tell you. They are trying to make a sale, even if it doesn’t match your needs. Do your research first. Know what you want, and what you can spend.

When you record videos, you need good audio in addition to good video. Ideally, you want something that will give you a good experience, especially if you’re on the go. I now have two of these little Eyeball webcams, and the audio quality is great!

The video quality is good, but not excellent. For my needs, I have to have high quality video. However, the audio quality is excellent. The Eyeball is perfect for instant messaging, video conferencing and more. The Eyball contains Blue’s famous professional-quality condenser capsule, which gives it better sound than any other webcam you’ll find.

The Eyeball has several different designs, so that you can find one to match your computer or office decor. It has a retractable lens, and even will turn itself off if you forget to. If you’re me, then you never seem to be able to turn off the camera. However, I’d say that most people do want their cameras turned off when they aren’t intentionally using them.

What’s really nice about the Eyeball is that it connects via mini-USB, and it collapses for easier portability. If you have enough light, I think you’ll be very happy with the video quality. Just like with most webcams, it doesn’t do well in low light. However, I’ve yet to find any cam that does!

It seems like everyone has a cell phone these days. And most phones now have a camera built-in, capable of taking still shots and video clips. Mobile phones great for capturing and sharing video content. Microsoft wants to enable multiple mobile phones to collaborate in recording an event and then construct one higher-resolution video from the resulting video streams.

This idea was developed by three guys working in Microsoft’s Egypt labs. They were hoping to find a way to provide video of classroom lectures. They soon realized that this had many other uses, such as citizen journalism and live streaming family events like weddings or reunions.

If you look closely at the embedded video, you’ll see first the two separate streams that are being captured, using two cell phones. Below that, you’ll see the single video that has been spliced from the separate ones. Anything that overlapped was automatically blended together. You literally cannot tell where one video ended, and another began within the frame!

This is just very cool. Imagine being at a family reunion, and being able to capture all the action at once to stream back home to a sick relative who couldn’t attend. Or maybe you’re at a wedding, and you can stream both the ceremony and the audience at the same time to a family member abroad who couldn’t make it.

I’m checking out the newest in products from the folks at Monster – The Beats. Would you believe that Dr. Dre himself sent these to me? Ok, so maybe he didn’t. But it’s still pretty cool to think he might have!

I have reviewed noise canceling headphones a lot. I won’t go on trips without them. I’m not a big fan of earbuds, so I prefer regular headphones. There are a couple of reasons why I like the Beats more than other noise canceling headphones. One is that I love the way they fit perfectly over my ears.

Another thing I love is that I feel completely immersed in whatever I’m listening to. I’ve tried the surround-sound earphones before, but never really heard the surround. With the Beats, I feel completely IN surround sound. It was a completely new experience, and an amazing one.

I love the cabling of these things. I was confused as to why the cabling is separated from the headphones. Then, I took a better look. I noticed a little box attached to the black wire… and was like WHOA! Connect that wire to the headphones, and something like your iPhone. You can use your Beats with your iPhone, and even take calls without having to remove your very comfortable headset!

Lastly, I am happy with the batteries in this set. They take just regular old AA batteries, instead of a proprietary battery. I’ve been on trips where my old headphones would be completely dead and unusable, due to the battery draining itself. That’s so frustrating. With the Beats, I don’t have to worry about that.

There’s also a small mute button on the side. You can just push the button to stop playback of whatever you’re listening to, in order to focus your attention elsewhere. Once you’re done, push the button again and return to your music or podcast.

If you’re going to spend the money for a good music device, then spend the money on a good pair of noise canceling headphones. If you’re asking my opinion in terms of quality and features – you want the Beats.

If you hadn’t noticed, I do happen to record and upload a lot of videos. I don’t really like to do video editing. However, there are times it needs to be done. One of the programs I use to edit videos is called ZS4. This was recommended to me by Steve Johnson.

This is available for Mac, Windows and Linux! It’s also a free program, with a handful of very useful features. ZS4 Video Editor can be used like an object oriented photo-manipulation program with a timeline: things that can be manipulated in a photo (workshop) program can be manipulated in ZS4 using parameters which alter over time. ZS4 Video Editor is worth using when…

the final output is a combination of more than 2 media sources rendered simultaneously. (like nine talking heads separately filmed, but later arranged in a 3×3 video wall combination)
every aspect of the compositing process needs to be ‘tweened with an adjustable interpolation algorithm, from rotation angles to audio volume and chroma key sensitivity etc…
it becomes necessary to create custom effects and imaging processes by combining any number of effects using a highly flexible and infinitely variable toolbox of imaging “primitives”.

What exactly is the best operating system? Is it Mac OS X? Is it Windows? Is it Linux? To answer that, I asked myself. Listen in as I argue with myself, and attempt to come to a concrete decision. Pretty cool the way I did that, isn’t it? I bet you wish you could make your voice do that! Well, you can if you have an iPhone!

I recorded four different tracks using FourTrack, which is available in the App Store for about $10.00. FourTrack is a well-designed app for the iPhone or iPod Touch that records, mixes and plays up to four tracks at once. There’s no way it’ll replace your main recording setup, but then again, you can’t put your main recording setup in your pocket.

As you’re recording on one track, you can either silence the others or listen to them. You can lay down a beat and transfer it back to your computer if you want. Each track can be as long as your device’s memory can handle, and the program can contain an unlimited number of projects. We like that you never have to save – everything you record gets stored automatically.

Each track gets stored as a separate WAV file that can be easily transferred to any computer on your WiFi network, another one of our favorite features. With your iPhone or iPod Touch connected to your wireless network, activate the WiFi Sync option to generate a URL to enter into your computer’s browser. Then you can download the four recorded tracks directly to your computer and into the audio editing software of your choice.

Even though my voice wasn’t working very well, I had a lot of fun recording the tracks to make the audio clips for this video. It was so easy to do, and totally worth it. I definitely recommend FourTrack.
