I am convinced that there are no sunsets more beautiful than the ones I see when I’m in Hawaii.

Even though I was busy with various conference activities and social meetups… I still took time to stop and appreciate the absolute beauty everywhere around me. In Hawaii, you don’t have to look far to find it.

I’ve done several videos now to share your favorite places to visit in your hometowns. There’s been such an overwhelming number of these that I can’t possibly record them all! Since this one comes from a guy who claims that Denmark is the home of Geeks, I HAD to share it. I am a Geek, after all, and I’m assuming you are as well (since you’re watching my videos!). These are the things you should do if you ever visit Denmark – according to Nicolai.

• First of all… it is a scientific fact that Denmark is the Geekiest country on the planet, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit. According to them, Denmark is the leading nation in making use of new technology.
• LEGO is a Danish brand. Visiting the LEGO theme park is a great Geeky – and fun! – experience. See the Statue of Liberty, Darth Vader and other cool celebrities made out of LEGO blocks.
• Visit Amalienborg, which is our royal house. Denmark is a Monarchy, which means we have a queen or a king. They have on paper the absolute power. They have to sign all laws that comes from the government. Of course, it is just a formality. The split second the queen refuses to sign a bill, she would get “fired” and we would have a republic. We do have democracy after all.
• Visit Randers Rainforest, which is a tropical zoo. It is amazing. You feel like you’re walking in the middle of a real rainforest, with snakes and monkeys living totally free among the visitors.
• Sail with the worlds oldest paddle steamer. She is 148 years old and still going strong.
• See the Little Mermaid, which is one of the worlds most photographed statues. She is situated on Copenhagen’s waterfront. A lot of people get a kick out of how small she is.(That is so Denmark in a nutshell – small and tiny).
• Visit the home of the world famous writer of fairytales Hans Christian Andersen. You might have read one of his fairy tales called The Ugly Duckling.
• If you are into sports, you can watch a professional soccer match in one of our stadiums. Soccer is our national sport. We stink at baseball, football and basketball… but we excel at soccer!
• Hang out in some of our famous coffee shops. You can sit outside and enjoy the city life with your travel companions. Drink coffee and have a slice of Danish – the coffee cakes, of course.
• I’m not only a Geek – I’m a barber, as well. So if you ever visit my shop and mention Chris’ email address, I will cut your hair for free!

Where would you visit if you could go anywhere in the world, and cost were not a factor? I haven’t done a travel tips video for a week or so, so I decided it was past time to bring a couple of them to you. This one is full of tips for places to visit in Egypt! Egypt is somewhere I’ve always wished I could travel to, and these ideas make me hope to get there one day even more. Thanks to Tarek for sending these to me!

• Botanical Garden – Kitchener’s Island lies in the middle of the Nile at Aswan and is home to over thirty varieties of palm and tropical plants from around the world. The effect is lush and exotic and attracts colorful birds, water fowl, and egrets.
• High Dam – Two dams straddle the Nile river at this point: the newer Aswan High Dam and the older Aswan Dam or Aswan Low Dam. The aim of this water project was to prevent the river’s flooding, generate electricity and provide water for agriculture. The old Aswan Dam is about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) up-river from Cairo. The new Aswan High Dam is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) upriver from the older dam.
• Alsouk Street – Alsouk is the main street for market shopping in Aswan. At this popular street market you can find spices, food, souvenirs, baskets, colorful textiles, carvings and jewelry.
• Philae Island and the Temple of Isis – The Temple of Isis is one of the greatest and grandest temples in Egypt. It occupies nearly a quarter of the island. It is, of course, the main temple on the island. There is an awesome sound and light show every evening. The extensive complex is dedicated to Isis, who is the Goddess of Motherhood and Fertility in ancient Egyptian religious beliefs.
• Temple of Ramses II – Abu Simbel is the location of the most famous temple of Ramses. The most spectacular aspect of this temple is its setting: in the solid rock above the banks of the Nile River. The walls depict scenes which show Ramses’ greatness in battle. Ramses was proud of his victory at the Battle of Kadesh against the Nubian rebels, and depicted this pride on numerous monuments… including this temple.
• Nubian museum – This museum contains about 3000 exhibits that represent the culture and civilization of the Nubian region… from prehistoric times to the present. The museum is built on steep cliff land, which enables it to create a full-scale design model of the Nile River and surrounding areas.
• Nubian House Cafe – This laid-back Nubian café and restaurant is the place to be at sunset, with spectacular views over the First Cataract. Sit on traditional wooden benches on the huge shady terrace for a mint tea and sheesha (water pipe).
• Take a Cruise along the Nile – If you visit Egypt, ytou don’t want to miss a trip down the Nile River. It’s inexpensive, and amazingly beautiful.
• Aga Khan Tomb – This is the Mausoleum of the spiritual leader of the Ismailis, a Shi’ite sect (as were the Fatimid). The Ismailis are a diverse community speard all over Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. It is a very elegant pink granite structure of late 1950 origin, which also resembles the Fatimid tombs in Cairo.
• Elephantine Island. – Elephantine Island is the largest of the Aswan area islands, and is one of the most ancient sites in Egypt, with artifacts dating to predynastic periods. This is probably due to its location at the first Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia. As an island, it was also easily defensible.

Doesn’t it sound like an amazing trip to go on? I definitely have to put visiting Egypt on my to-do-someday list!

We’ve been doing a series of travel tips for awhile now, and this is our next installment. It’s inevitable – you’re going to have to leave your house at some point in time. By doing these “places to visit” videos, I’m hoping that you’ll make time for some fun and sightseeing while you travel.

This list was sent in by chat regular Craighton. He was an attendee at Gnomedex, and worked right alongside Kat and our volunteers, even though he had paid for a ticket. He’s a great, hardworking young man and I’m very happy to have him as part of our community. Craighton is actually from right here in Seattle, but his family traveled to Whistler, Canada recently. He wanted to share some of the places he visited while there with all of you.

• Go Ziplining – There is a ziplining company on the mountain that takes you through the views of the forests of Whistler and Blackcomb. The zipline goes through the forests and gives many amazing views. They even have a “freestyle” zipline where you can go upside down! It is available in the summer and winter!
• Ride the Peak2Peak Gondola – For the 2010 Olympics, Whistler built a Gondola between the Blackcomb and Whistler mountain. The views on this gondola are incredible. It also breaks 3 world records for being the highest and longest gondola in North America. It is truly a sight to behold!
• Farmers Market – Visit the farmers marked in the “Upper Village” on the Blackcomb side. This farmers market brings the freshest bread and crops from the area. During the farmers market, there is free music and much more.
• Mountain Biking – If visiting during the summer, rent a dirt bike and bike down the mountain. It is fun for all ages, and it gives you a different view of the mountain. While there are jumps for the more experienced, there is also a side path so you can just ride down the mountain at your leisure.
• Eat at The Brewhouse – Besides having world famous beer, they also have the best pizza on the planet. You should try their BBQ Chicken pizza!
• Cows – Grab some ice cream from Cows! This local ice cream shop makes all their ice cream in-house, and uses local ingredients to make spectacular ice cream… it’s honestly some of the best you’ll ever taste.
• Nicklaus North Golf – If you are into golf, go for a round at the “Nicklaus North” golf course. For golfers from beginners to experts, this course is for all ages and skill levels. This course is very flat and wide – so even the least talented golfers can keep the ball in the middle of the course.
• Go to the peak of Whistler – You can travel by ski lift to the peak of Whistler Mountain. It is a breathtaking 360-degree view of the mountain range. The peak is the highest you can go on Whistler, and if you go to Whistler this is a must. Be warned, if you don’t like heights stay at the base because the gondola brings you over a big drop into a glacier.
• Walk the Blackcomb loop – While on the Blackcomb mountain, you can walk the 1 hour loop that takes you around the top of Blackcomb mountain. This path takes you right into the center of the wild life. Who knows, you might even see a bear!!!
• Geocaching – The company will give you a GPS with coordinates. Hike on Whistler and/or Blackcomb mountains to find different treasures, such as a free pass to ride the gondola.

If you’re into outdoors-y things, and gorgeous sights, it sure sounds like Whistler is the place to be!

When I was getting ready to record this video, I went online to find some wallpaper for my Mac that showcased the beauty of Scotland. It’s absolutely gorgeous, isn’t it? This is the next in our series of things to do and places to visit. Douglas sent his list from Edinburgh, Scotland. Have you sent your list yet? What’s fun and/or unique to do and see where you are from?

• Visit the Scott Monument – The soaring, Gothic monument to the memory of Sir Walter Scott (who died in 1832) was built in 1840-46 to a design by George Meikle Kemp, a self-taught architect.
• Visit Dynamic Earth – Again in Edinburgh, this is an educational center or museum that provides information on Edinburgh and the rest of the world – with some very interesting things inside.
• Visit St Andrews – St Andrews was historically the Ecclesiastical capital of Scotland. The cathedral was the most important in Scotland during the medieval period, and the Bishops of St Andrews lived in St Andrews Castle. St Andrews is also seen as the Home of Golf, being the home of the Royal and Ancient, one of the oldest Golf Clubs in the world and the R&A one of game’s worldwide ruling bodies.
• Visit the Bass Rock – It is a very large rock in the Firth of Forth that is home to a very very large number of birds. Many tourist boats go out there, as it is a spectacle to say the least. It’s also near a beautiful harbor village.
• Visit the Art Galleries in Edinburgh – There are many galleries in Edinburgh, and the city is home to many famous artists.
• Visit Glasgow – Lots of shopping/ Also more very famous galleries.
• Visit the Museum of Flight East Fortune – There are lots of planes to see and a museum for the whole history of flight. There is a Concorde jet in residence. You can walk around inside it, and learn all about the background of the aircraft. There are also many air shows on at the venue, so catch the right dates and its a very fun day.
• Visit Edinburgh Castle – Located on top of a volcano, the castle is a very unique location overlooking Edinburgh and the sea. The Crown Jewels are kept there, and there’s a large museum on site, as well. This place is beautiful and interesting, and a must stop for tourists.
• Watch the Edinburgh Military Tattoo – From its early days, the Edinburgh Tattoo has been an international favorite. Performers from over 40 countries have presented here, and around 35 per cent of the 217,000 audience each year are from overseas.
• Come to take part/spectate the Edinburgh Fringe – The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the world, with something for everyone: theater, comedy, music, dance, exhibitions and much more.

It sounds to me like Scotland is the place to be!

After my trip to Hawaii, Traci was kind enough to interview another one of the local tech enthusiasts for me! Neenz is the chief evangelist for Alltop, spreading the news about them to the World. Alltop is an “online magazine rack” of popular topics. They update the stories every hour. Pick a topic, and they deliver it to you 24/7. Their tagline is: All the topics, all the time..

Traci noted during the early part of the interview that Neenz has such a sense of warmth surrounding her, which even comes across in her blog writing. Traci calls it the Aloha Spirit, and Neenz couldn’t agree more. To Neenz, the Aloha Spirit (also called love and/or friendship) is simply an action word. It’s something that you do, and that you show. You have to be sincere, even online. Be genuine, and transparent.

Neenz was instrumental in making my latest stay in Hawaii such an amazing one. She worked tirelessly helping to put together the Tweetups and other things I was able to do. I sincerely appreciate that! I had a great time, and am looking forward to going back again one day.

Just like with Burt, Neenz has definite opinions on what gadgets you need to pack when you travel. The first conference she went to, she massively over-packed. Her biggest piece of advice is to not do this! The main thing about a conference is to be comfortable.

She always makes sure she has her iPhone, including podcasts to watch on it while traveling. She also never forgets her Incase charger, to help boost the battery life. She also brings her laptop and her HP Mini Netbook. She likes to travel with the Mini because it’s so easy to grab while on the go in order to get things done. Lastly, Neenz brings along her Logitech Quickcam Orbit, so that she can stream (if allowed) what she’s watching through her website.

Now that Neenz has told all of you what tech she packs when she travels, how does her list match up with yours? What gadgets, gizmos and technology do you have to pack when you travel?

This past weekend, my parents kidnapped me, and forced me to go on a short weekend vacation with them! I was forced at gun point! Well, maybe not gun point, but you get the drift. We bundled our things into the car, and set off to visit the Spruce Goose, which is the largest wooden airplane in the World.

Why did we do this? My parents thought it would be fun! And, of course, I don’t get to spend my time with my parents now that I live in Seattle. They really are awesome people, and I love them a bunch. But come ON! Family road trip?
