Downtown Hawaii Skyline

The skyline in Honolulu is absolutely beautiful during the late evening. Isn’t that view amazing?! The reason I recorded this, though, is to get all of you involved. I want to have everyone record a short video response for this post, and show us your skyline. You can live in a city, a small town, or even out in the country. Take a short video and show us what it looks like in your neck of the woods just before sunset!

A Children’s Guide to Splattered Bugs

A Children's Guide to Splattered Bugs

This is an actual sign I saw on the side of a gas pump I used today. Why didn’t I ever think of doing something like this?! It seems like something I would have enjoyed having around when I was a kid. Then again, I think I’m more impressed with the ad campaign itself (and 76 seems to have blitzkrieged Seattle with banners and billboards recently).

At the end of Gnomedex 9, photographer Kris Krug graced our stage once again. Last year, he presented his best photography tips to us in order to help us all capture conference moments (and life moments!) more effectively. This year, he provided an awesome and fun look back at this year’s conference by giving away photo awards. Here, in order of appearance, are this year’s photo winners!

Geek Drinks

Geek Drinks

While in Hawaii last week for the [re]Think Hawaii conference, a few of us stopped in to have a drink at Tiki’s Grill. This place makes some amazing drinks, lemme tell ya.

The Business of Social Media

The Business of Social Media

According to my friend Michael, business is conducted during play time quite often. This held true during my recent trip to Hawaii, while we were having lunch at Tiki’s Grill.

Tiki’s has an awesome menu, and you have to try the Poke Bowl if you ever have the chance! Hawaiian ahi poke is chunks of fresh yellow fin tuna, seasoned with Hawaiian ogo seaweed, soy sauce and sesame oil. The Poke Bowl consists of this served over white rice, and topped with avocado and pipikaula aioli.

What the Frog?!

What the Frog?

During my recent trip to Hawaii, I ran into a giant amphibian. He’s not native to the Islands, of course. He’s from Rubbersville, WY! Who’d have ever expected to see an abnormally large frog standing in their hotel lobby?!

Hawaii Sunset

Hawaii Sunset

I am convinced that there are no sunsets more beautiful than the ones I see when I’m in Hawaii.

I was on the Islands last week for the [re]Think Hawaii conference, courtesy of the folks at Hawaii-Aloha.

Decided to ride around Ohau with my new friend, the ReThink Bunny. We had tons of fun with other Twitter friends – including @alohayaling, @alohabruce, @elliottng, @mikeprasad, @rickyli99, @dodeja, and @kaiserkuo (a Chinese rock star)!

Battle of Nu’uanu Pali

Battle of Nu'uanu Pali

Looking at the Ko’olaus from a vantage point of the Pali. That’s the Like Like highway below.

This spot (where I’m standing, not where I’m pointing the camera’s lens) is where Kamehameha forced the Oahu opposition off the edge (Kaleleka’anae).

Hawaii Hotel: Outrigger Waikiki

Hawaii Hotel: Outrigger Waikiki

This is where I’m staying for [re]Think Hawaii, courtesy of @AlohaBruce and his crew.

The room is spacious, the amenities are aplenty, and the bed gave me a very peaceful night’s rest. I know what you’re thinking… I’m a Geek. Geeks aren’t supposed to sleep! However, I freely admit that I most certainly do sleep, every night! Sleep is good for you, really!!

Me in Real Life

Hawaii Morning

Hawaii Morning

I think I have found a new home away from home at the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki. I traveled down to the Islands last week to attend the [re]Think Hawaii conference. This place is so amazingly comfortable, with every amenity a Geek could hope for! The bed was comfy, the view was gorgeous, and there were giant frogs in the lobby!
