Casio Exilim EX-1080

On Black Friday, Ponzi noticed that there was a great sale on the Casio Exilim camera, which is being touted as the “YouTube Camera”. I definitely had to check it out, since I record and upload a *lot* of videos. When you use your digital camera to take videos, they are normally very large files, and not formatted as an .mp4 file. An .mp4 format is the one that will play on YouTube, as well as your iPod, the iPhone, or even a Zune. So, I normally have to compress and convert the video files prior to uploading. This Casio Exlim has the .mp4 conversion capability built right in!
The .mp4 quality isn’t outstanding, but it is very good. It comes out as a smaller file size, which makes it nice to upload. I absolutely love the “best shot” mode. You can choose from things like backlighting, ID Photos, Ebay-ready photo, and even YouTube.
Casio’s Exilim Digital Cameras with the new YouTube Capture Mode makes it easy to upload and share your videos publicly or privately. With Casio’s new H.264 video technology, you can record high quality video ideal for playback on wide screen TVs. These YouTube friendly cameras allow you to capture your spontaneous moments and seamlessly transition them to YouTube.
When the shutter is pressed, the camera automatically selects one of nine separate focus points, based on which point is aligned with the nearest part of the subject, and focuses on that point. The screen displays all nine focus points and indicates which points will be in focus when the photo is taken so you can accurately create your photo.
Overall, I have to give props to Casio for this camera. It’s an excellent buy, for sure.

I want something between a compact and an SLR. You know a camera with 10x zoom and SLR type body but with slightly more user friendly controls!

Casio has had some good camera’s but I still like the logitec. However, your review of the Casio was quite enlightening to me since I new to this Podcasting. Since the Casio does have the mp4 conversion it could be great for such implementation.

Looks great for YouTube Videos! The price is a LITTLE too much for what it comes with (the “special” USB cable, erg), but if a few of those problems were fixed, the $200 is a pretty good price. I already got a video camera that was $181, so when i use it for YouTube, i would have to download it from the Disk, and recode it in Nero. Also that one is A LOT more compact than mine lol. Great Review! :)

I really like the Youtube mode. It’s perfect for those who do Youtube vids a lot. Although pretty much any camera will get the job done. I’ve played with a display model at BestBuy and it looked pretty good. But besides the Youtube sticker on it, any other digi cam will produce the same result. It’s good for convenience for frequent Youtubers.

Hey, my Dad got a Canon SLR, and I use it, they are so good. They take the clearest pictures. And they do easy to use, we use ours with a 4GB memory card and that can hold about 1200 pictures, and thats just auto shoot. There awesome highly recommend….

I have had 2 Casio Exilim cameras, the EX-S2 and currently the EX-Z1000 (the old version of the Z1080). I absolutely love both cameras. The interface is nice, lots of options and info. The Z1000 takes excellent pictures and video. I would recommend Exilim cameras to anyone and I have already won over most of my family and friends.

you are comparing Casio to Canon? Out of your mind? Casio sucks. your lens will get stuck. and watch the lcd screen. it will go black and when you call Casio, they will blame everything on you. bad move with getting this. casio cameras are crappy.

Thanks for the review pal ;-) I just bought this camera, saw it had good reviews, good ratings, etc. I recently broke a Sony cybershot dw-80 (i think) and got this looking for a decent snap-shoot digicam with good video stuff. Hope I don’t regret it ;-)

We have a Panasonic Lumix camera that looks like that Casio you’re holding. It’s a few years old and works great. I’ve had trouble setting the white level right (auto looks a little yellow), but I’m probably doing it wrong. I like my brother’s Canon more because it just seems a bit faster, especially in the speed it takes pictures, which is an important feature in my opinion. Otherwise I’ve had good exp. with LUMIX.
