One system that will detect evev tiny leaks anywhere in the home or business is the Leak Defense System by Sentinel Hydrosolutions. It will automatically shut off the water and notify you by phone or pager if you wish. At least one insurance company offers a premium discount for those with the system. This thing is so loud. I do think it could prevent water damage if you were in any part of your house. It’s a nice little gizmo to have and I think it would work fine.

This is great! I am going to get one of these things! I can see how this would be VERY useful in the winter for us who live in areas that tend to freeze! I have had pipes freeze before…. It is never fun trying to keep pipes from freezing… There is always 1 pipe in our house that I will have to hit with the hair dryer because it freezes before we can get the water circulating!

If it gets bad enough, DO NOT HIRE a plumber that has there but crack showing like the TV shows. (my thoughts on getting the right plumber.)

This is an awesome find! I think that I might pick some up for our house. The hot water heater *wink* is a great place. Also we have a decending driveway which could flood as well.

Oh, and the reason for the screw driver battery hatch gizmo is for children’s safety. Being that kids will probably find these due to their low location, a safety hatch is required. When you have kids you’ll find those on 90% of battery operated kids toys. And yes, they are a pain in the ass!

We have three of these. Unfortunately, my wife managed not to hear when one of them went off during a recent heavy rainstorm. It’s a high-pitched alarm, but it’s not very loud from two floors away and my wife’s gotten very good at tuning out little noises (we also have three noisy boys…)
