Call me on Gizmo, Skype, or Google Talk NOW!
We do a live show every Thursday night… but tonight, we're going to have a deathmatch between these three entrants… Skype, Gizmo, and Google Talk. In fact, I hope to have it so that we'll have three calls (one from each client) going on at the same time. And yes, we'll be recording it. I'm “lockergnome” on Skype and Gizmo, and “chris.pirillo@gmail.com” on Google Talk. Don't expect me to take calls at any other time, though… I'd never get anything done. On Thursday nights, however, our lines are open – including the toll-free phone number (1.888.PIRILLO). See ya there!

Time Change
The show is moving to a new time! Starting September 1st, The Chris Pirillo Show can be heared an hour earlier at 9 PM Eastern, 7 PM Pacific!
All Hell Breaks Loose
Chris had a little experiment tonight: instead of using just the land line, you could call in via Gizmo, MSN, Yahoo!, Skype, and Google Talk. One point during the show symbolized the chaos of the different IM clients became apparent: several clients – including Skype, Google Talk, and Yahoo! – went off at the same time while Chris was on the phone with a caller.
InBox 360
InBox 360 works with small to mid sized companies helping them building client and prospect lists. They accomplish this by sending out permission-based newsletters – providing businesses with a full e-marketing solution.
Joe is the president and founder of the company, and this his is second successful company.
The company works with Harley Davidson dearlerships, BMW dealerships, a Fortune 100 drug company (which sends out 20 million e-mails a month), AAA Travel, and others. The company makes sure that they do the marketing “right” so that their clients do not need to worry about any of the technical problem with sending these marketing messages.
Although they work with several high profile companies, the core of their business is focused on helping the small merchant; for example, 2500 direct e-mails could cost a merchant $1000, but by using inbox 360, it would only cost $200, and they handle everything from the design to sending, and all of the technical problems that arise.
They are starting to sell RSS, but it’s a small process. Since RSS has not saturated the market on the same level as e-mail, they provide subscribers with a customer flash-based RRSS reader.
The company has 12 employees, but that will be expanding soon as they expand.
The process of signing up is simple: you send a request in via their website, and a sales representative will contact you. Every merchant that signs up will be provided with a campaign manager who will be the only person that handles the account.
One important fact they mention is that they do not have a generic content management system, because one size fits all – your campaign will not be the same as a car dealership, or Hooters.
Live Calls and Questions
- GamerCircle is looking for someone that can do web graphics for his site. Chris suggested that he take a look at CSSZenGarden.
- Gabriel Google Talked to Chris to ask about why there are so many Messaging and Voice clients and why they don’t integrate and work with each other so you’re not required to use so many different clients to keep in touch with everyone.
- Ray from iPodderX called in. iPooderX is now available for PCs. The text to speech client now works on Windows, there are new tag subscriptions, and other new features in the newest version.
- Mark called in to talk about Google Talk on his Tablet. He really liked the simplicy of it. He mentioned everyone should check out the Blog Search Tool, [1] which is how Mark found out about the Google Talk feature of the show.
- Phyllis (Ponzi’s mom!) called in to ask if cookies really should be cleared every so often? She also noticed that the browser history is stored on disk and asked how it can be cleared. Chris explained that you might want to watch your tracks at work and that it’s a good idea to clear out the history using the “clear history” button in Internet Explorer’s “internet options” menu; however, it’s really not necessary to remove the cookies on a computer that only you have access to as they are mostly used to store your logins to various web sites, and cannot really do anything nefarious as some people mistakenly believe.
- John needs a new laser mouse and is seeking recommendations. Chris suggested he look at Microsoft’s mice but the caller doesn’t care for them. Several in the chat room suggested the Logitech MX-1000.
- Dan (CaptainOrion) called in via Google Talk and asked if Chris had tried the Desktop Search 2.0 integration yet. Chris said he hadn’t and that he wasn’t too wild about the Google Talk GUI but that the voice quality was awesome.
- Harold of VoyagerRadio and Nick called in via Skype’s conferencing feature and spoke with Chris about RSS aggregators.
- usrbingeek of the WyldRyde IRC Network called in to ask about the equipment Chris uses for the show and if he had any suggestions for headsets and microphones. usrbingeek will also be celebrating his 29th birthday this Saturday and has an Amazon Wishlist.
Chris and Jake don’t specifically recommend the equipment they use for the show because of the cost and complexity. That said, here are the specs: bi-dynamic headsets that require weird custom wiring, routing through a compressor from Oasis, routing through a Macy DFX12 mixing board, the headsets are powered of a HP4 presonis headset mixer (which gives up to 4 people control over their own headset’s volume), the phone system uses a comrex stack 6 line dual digital hybrid system.
At home Jake uses a Berranger U802 mixer, studio projects C1 microphone. He uses Adobe Audition for editing, and connects the mixer to a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card.
For podcasters Jake recommends the Sennheiser E-835 or Shure SM58 microphone or a Plantronics headsets.
- GamersCircle recommended the Sony TMR540R Wireless Headset.
- Harold called in again from his landline, but he never got through to Chris – his girlfriend hung up the phone because she felt her privacy was being violated. (Harold was calling in from the shower, where they were both bathing together.) Of course, you wouldn’t know this if you hadn’t read the show notes, so thank goodness you did!
Creative Zen Vision
Jake can’t stop raving about the Creative Zen Vision
