I feel your pain. I have Comcast at my house in Colorado, and the ISP service drops out all the time. It is very frustrating. If I could have any ISP that I wanted, it would be Qwest. I would love to have their fiber optic internet. :D

Definitely Cable! We had Comcast for 2 years and they were great! The speed was really fast and there customer service was pretty good. It is a shame we had to move. But we got new cable internet where we are now!

I had comcash digital tv Then:
they turned me of when i paid my bill (ONn time in full)
took 3 days to reconnect (must not mess up the service shcedule even if it’s us that screwed up!!!)
they fried the dvr box when they turned it on
took 3-4 days to replace the box
it died a week and a half later, 3 more days
during all this they gave me $111 in credits BUT
none of my bills changed by even 1 penny (amount of bills)
I refused to pay (amazingly all the credits had dissppeared from the system)
they turned me off and a week later added another months charge
a week later
I will NEVER do business with COMCASH again.

I live south of Seattle and will not do business with ComCast for the same reason: you cannot get a hold of anyone who will give you answer that make sense. I use Qwest DSL and service has been very reliable; it has to be as I use VOIP almost daily for work. Call them and see what they can do for you. I know they’re DSL and you probably prefer Cable but …. call them anyway. I have also had really good luck with Verizon DSL with the VOIP situ when I lived in Portland, OR a couple of years ago… they are also very helpful. Good luck.

I was about three miles from the CO and was able to get IDSL with a static IP address. This the DSL that goes the farthest since it uses 2B1Q modulation like BRI ISDN. It is of course very slow compared to cable but?

Chris, try Speakeasy DSL. Even if the phone company says ya can't get DSL check with Speakeasy. You don't even need a phone line with the local phone company anymore to get DSL. Speakeasy is the geek's ISP. Here is my referral link http://www.speakeasy.net/refer/62026

Comcast blows monkey chunks. Dedicated IP is not in their vocabulary… DSL makes me much hapier .. that is until I have to call tech support and have to talk to someone in India reading from a script.

I work for Comcast here in Denver on a part time basis, weekends only, in local retail stores, (Best Buy, Circuit City etc), selling the High Speed Internet. I can empathize with you as I hear all sorts of customer service horror stories from people in the stores.

You're in Madison Park and you're too far from the “central office” to get DSL? Didja try Speakeasy or Qwest?
I live up in Maple leaf, near Northgate mall, and I've got DSL service through Qwest and haven't had any problems yet (crossing fingers).

Comcast is fine until you have a problem, or ask them to do something special. Only option I have down South if you.
Phone service, ha, the only way to go to talk with their customer service is via their java based chat client. You can access it by signing into your account on thier webpage. I hope you have a thick skin and a high tolerance for pain…..

We're happy with Comcast down south of you, Chris, at least for the internet. The cable TV is overpriced compared to satellite. You might be able to get around the IP issue with one of those dynamic IP services.

i also think that people at a place like an isp feel sort of threatened by tekkie people who have a clue–they are so used to being the all knowing person to the average caller, and they usually end up freaking out, even because of something as simple as a static ip… they have no clue how to handle the different situations because it's not on their little cheat sheet…
