There's a downed power line in the vicinity of the Potrero Center Peet's. I wish I had known that before I left my house this morning. After paying $12 for a parking spot that I could keep all day, I jumped into the TechTV van and came to the studio. So close, yet so far away. I started to run through today's show and decided to give Starbucks a shot. “It can't be as bad as I remember it.” No, it was far worse. Five sips from a Venti later and I've come up with a list of things I'd rather drink than another drop of Starbucks coffee: (1) camel piss; (2) anti-freeze; (3) melted crayons; (4) amniotic fluid; (5) mayonnaise that's been sitting under direct sunlight all day; (6) tripe puree; (7) tobacco juice; (8) an entire vat of fry oil from Burger King; (9) formaldehyde; and (10) sulfuric acid. What the hell was I thinking?!

Yeah, Starbucks tends to be a bit on the strong side, except if you're drinking a Frappucino.

I quit drinking starbucks after tasting what real coffee is supposed to taste like at a few other independent coffee houses.
Heck even McDonald's coffee is better.

Argh! Why did you waste the money on a venti when you were suspicious in the first place?! Get a smaller cup! Or at least a mocha-coconut Frappuchino. *harrumph*
Sorry, dear. It's hard on me when I hear of our money being wasted on bad Starbucks concoctions. ;)

#4…sounds like a bad sci-fi flick. :-P Something I have been hooked on lately that is all over the place at least around here at the mini-marts. Spiced Chai herbal tea. Hmmm. Sends a tingle down my spine each time. Kinda like when Homer Simson thinks about donuts. ;-)

all hail Peet's. Starbucks overroasts, cheats farmers, buys up the little shops, makes children cry, and kicks puppy dogs… ok, i'm not 100% sure on a few of those, but i'm pretty sure.

Consider yourself lucky that you can have Peet's on any normal day. Out here in the sticks of the Central Valley, the nearest one is 40 minutes away, leaving us with mostly only Starbucks to deal with. Luckily there are a few Java Makers around.

The only reason I go to Starbucks is for the free internet access through wi-fi. lol. I don't even go inside the building. I can get access from the other side of the street if I plug in my big antenna.

I've never tried Peets. I have never SEEN a Peets here in L.A (altho true I dont get out much and live under a rock). Starbucks is as special for me as it gets, being that I usually drink AM/PM coffee or instant coffee.. IF I drink coffee at all.. being that I am normally a tea drinker anyway. ;p

How DARE you desecrate the Peet's cult, Chris! For shame, for shame!
For those of you who thinks Starbucks is strong, you haven't had a cuppa Peet's Arabian Mocha Java yet… ;)

There aren't many Starbucks in South Florida. Coffee culture tends to center around all of the Cuban cafeterÃas. Those Cubans can make awesome coffee. However, while visiting San Diego, my girlfriend and I frequented Starbucks for our coffee fix. We really didn't have much choice since there were FOUR (4) at one intersection near where we were staying. I must say, it's highly overrated.

Want to know something crazy? We don't have many Starbucks in Michigan. We have Tim Horton's. Yeah, that's the Canadian version of Starbucks.

Well, unfortunately we don't have a Peet's here in eastern Iowa, so I can't try it out. I enjoy Starbucks, although I don't drink coffee, per se. I drink the fancy stuff, their carmel frappuchinos rock. :)

Chris,
Get your own bag of Peets coffee. That way you can be wired 24/7, hehe. Or perhaps you can get a coffee machine and make your own strong coffee. My dad's coffee stains the mug black and no, it's just regular coffee, he just makes it very strong.

lisa – there are 8 peet's cafes in LA and you can buy their coffee from von's and pavillions. (peet's keeps me from being too homesick for SF)

I don't know where people get off calling Starbucks “strong”…Their Mochas are extremely weak and taste more like water than like coffee…
Whereas Peet's is sublime…First off they don't sweeten at all, leaving that up to YOUR tastes and their coffees are very well made…Full of flavor and coffee goodness.
But the best place to get coffee in the South Bay is Dana Street Roasting Company in downtown Mtn View…Great coffee, good tiramisu and you get served by freaks…Can't beat that!

some people think that roasting coffee longer means more caffeine.WRONG! heat kills caffeine. other reasons starbucks sucks is they don't even use good quality beans for their espresso. If you dont believe me Howard Schultz (Owner of starbucks) said that their beans aren't as good of quality as smaller coffee shops because they cant purchase that many beans at once. more stuff that sucks about them is customer service sucks. the employees know shit about coffee, and the people that like starbucks do not know a damn thing about coffee. also, starbucks tries to put everybody out of business, and doesnt play fair at all.

The only reason anyone likes Starbucks is because half the cup is filled with milk, caramel, chocolate, whipped cream, and the list goes on. Does anyone even drink a straight up black coffee from Starbucks??? If they did, I'm sure it was the first and last! For all you Starbucks fans, try this on for size; go to your nearest 7-11, fill a large coffe cup half way with 7-11's regular roast coffee, then roam around the store throwing in half a gallon of milk, half a can of whipped cream, some caramel and chocolate ice cream toppings, give it a little mix and drink. It's no different than a mocha frappe whatever the f'k it's called and will only cost you $1.80!!!!
