Braun Pulsonic 9595 Review

We Pirillos are a hairy bunch. I’ve had to shave ever since I was a young teen. I hate straight razors, and being a Geek… I need gadgets! I’ve tried nearly every brand and razor out there, and am happy with the line of Braun electric razors.
For years, Braun has served me well. They give me the success, comfort and speed that I want out of an electric razor. I’m Italian, and I have a LOT of facial hair. Not only is it thick, it’s also curly. That makes it much harder to get a good, close shave. The hairs curl inwards, back towards my face. I’m also prone to ingrown hairs.
Any time Braun comes out with a new razor, I have to buy it and try it. So, of course, I had to try this new Pulsonic. Right out of the box, I can tell the difference in weight with older models. It’s contoured differently, and definitely lighter. Turning it on, it definitely is louder and vibrates differently. I guess it would have to vibrate differently though, since it boasts a different type of blade rotation called Sonic Pulsing.
Doing a small test run with it, it’s not half bad. I’ll have to give it more time, and get it adjusted best for my face. It appears to get my face nice and smooth in most places, but did leave a few rough patches. The way I measure a good electric razor is by how many times I have to go over my face with it to get it completely clean and smooth.
An excellent little Geeky feature to this razor is the LCD readout. It tells you how much charge is left on the battery, and also what the hygeine level is. That way, you know when the razor is due for a cleaning. Every Braun razor comes with a little cleaning case that you pop it in, and let it do its work.
Before I sign off, I have to link back to an old video of the time Ponzi convinced me to try Waxing my face. Why any sane human being would do this more than once is beyond me. Trust me… don’t even try it once.

I have had the Pulsonic 9595 for over 1 year now (i bought it in Japan when it first came out) i have to say that i am supremely satisfied with it. I use to shave with a normal manual shaver and use to hate it. i would get sore tingly skin, frequently cut my self, spend lots of money on shaving blades after shave and cream. I will have to admit that the shave from a manual blade is a fraction smoother than that of the 9595 but because of the time wasted and the pain and discomfort i would only shave 2-3 times a week meaning that i had stubble almost all the time.
as for the 9595 it is very soothe and only takes about 1 min or less in the morning to get a pretty decent shave meaning that i do it every morning rather than once in a while. The cleaning solution you put in the base works very well and saves a lot of cleaning time, it is not particularly expensive costing around 20 bucks for 2 cartridges (that is here in Australia where that sort of thing is expensive in Japan its much much less). Over all i think you use 1 cartridge every 4-6 weeks using it every day. Apart from the actual razor the maintenance cos is lower i think that buying all the shaving apparatus and saves time.
Over all a fantastic purchase which works wonderfully i would never go back to the old manual way. So thanks Chris for bringing that shaver up because its very close to my heart and i hope that you enjoy it as much as i did.

The first electric shaver I used was a Braun and I was fiarly happy with it at the time, however I found it was very difficult to shave the hairs on my neck which stick in all directions also if I didn’t shave for a few days it was quite uncomfortable to shave with the Braun.
My second shave was a Philips Which corrected the problems with the Braun, i.e. no problem getting the neck hairs and it didn’t have any trouble with a few days growth. But it came with a new problem which was razor burn, not great. So then I went for a more expensive model Philips which worked pretty well all round, still a little razor burn but I’ve found using a powder stick virtually eliminates that.
I’m tempted to try a Braun again, perhaps for my next model.

Why does he mute when he shaves? Isn’t this a review on the shaver or a review on how much he blabbers on? This is worst than spam. I do like the foil shavers more than Norelco. They shave closer, but are noisier. Used Braun 360, Panasonic Wet Dry lately.

Thanks for the review. I am looking to try this razor out. In the past I have been using Norelco’s but I am finding, like you, my hair is very coarse and curly and the Norelco irritating my skin easily. I have a Braun 7526 that I have recently switched back to recently.

I’ve been using Braun shavers since the late 1980’s. I started with the rectangular block-like Linear, went to the Syncro 7000 series, then the Activator 8000 series. The latest, Pulsonic series, is nice but… well, Braun seems to have gone overboard for little improvement.
I’ve tried the 9595 model and compared to my 8595 Activator (basically the 8995 360), the shave is no better. Plus, with the 9595 the sound is much louder. I do like the “hand grip” design, but… seriously, the 8595 design was just fine as it is. Probably not as ding/dent resistant, but I’ve never dropped it.
I once used a Philips Norelco triple head shaver and found that although it got to my neck hairs in fewer passes, the shave wasn’t as close with the Braun. After reading and hearing several testimonies of people who prefer Braun over Norelco, I decided to forgo getting the Norelco Arcitec and stick with Braun. Basically, I’m happy with it. In about 5 minutes, I’ve got a very nice clean and close shave. It’s not quite like a blade shave, but then I don’t risk any cuts. Plus, after about 2 hours from a blade shave, your whiskers are about on par with the electric shave. Not that big a difference.
The 9595 is expensive. An impressive design, but not worth the extra money. You can find discounted 8995 units for about half the cost, and they’ll deliver an excellent performance.
I understand the “geek within” craving a new gadget, but sometimes it’s better to stick with what works well. It’s now about a year and half later and you didn’t revisit your review. I do wonder if you’ve found it really much better than what you had before.
