Bob Lutz, GM Blogger Roundtable
http://live.pirillo.com – You’ve likely already watched my live interview with Bob at youtube.com/watch?v=-ysnr-V2dRg (in which I was quite tongue-tied). This new recording was from an exclusive roundtable Q&A session with a few fellow bloggers.
Bob begins with his reasons for starting a blog…
NOTE: General Motors helped cover travel expenses for our trip to Germany. Without their direct support, this remote coverage would not have been possible. They allowed us to explore and cover as much as we possibly could, not just GM’s product line.

Hello Mr. Lutz
In or about 1997 I received a phone call from you inquiring about an electric generating device to which I was attempting to receive a grant for further studies.
I received several good reviews from governmental agencies including the US Navy where an engineer with the name of Singer explained why they were turning down my proposal. He advised me he was making the call because the US Government had stopped providing written statements as to what they considered significant and non-significant. When he called, which was approximately the same time frame you called, he encouraged me not to continue working on the projects and explained his interest in my ideas.
Unfortunately I never received a grant and after five years of work I just got burnt out on the constant hassle of attempting to get a grant when I was without an engineering degree or college education.
There was a professor at Ohio State University who had signed on to assist me in the engineering and technical reviews. There was another gentleman at Wright Patterson Air Base who had introduced me to that professor and another engineer at a materials engineering firm whose firm did rather extensive grant programs. There were also individuals from the University of Hawaii who voiced an interest.
You ask me if you could read my work and we did not come to any agreement, and it appears that was my stupidity. When we spoke I had been communicating with the Department of Commerce for energy related research and development where someone informed me about the Electric Car Project GM was involved in. Perhaps that call proceeded communication with that Project.
This technology, if as promising as some individuals thought at that time, with the new and advanced electronics development and technology, this might be of great value to our country. A lot of the technology was implementing semi conductors and specific permanent magnets which were in their engineering infancy at that time, but have now matured an perhaps made my [Hydro-shield Development Technologies] an issue of importance.
If you can remember or if you think you might like to re-address the technology it would make me very happy that these ideas are not wasted.
Basically this technology addressed thermal energy conversion for electrical generation for a multitude of fixed and mobile applications. My first idea was to convert fuel cell thermal pollution into electrical energy. My sell at that time was to contribute to depleting domestic dependency on foreign oil imports, which I considered a National Security issue.
I received a call from Daimler Benz requesting information about technology I had addressed in brake driven generation of electrical power which at that time was to sell conversion of energy required to stop an automobile and the automibles’ weight borne kenetic energy vs that required to power one. A couple years later I pickup a magazine and low and behold Daimler Benz had implemented my technology, only they had taken it a step forward and put the devices centrifugal flywheel within a vacuum, obviously to remove drag on the flywheel.
I have made two previous attempts to contact you however did not receive answers and do not know if you ever received those communications.
If you think this is something of importance of which you have interest it would be great to have another opportunity of discussion.
