Download Fanatics

Yes, I do download my fair share of shareware and freeware. Do you download as much as I do? Instead of checking myself into a clinic for Download Fanatics, I opted to enlist a small team of programmers to turn this “download disorder” into an actual service for the Web. Their handiwork can now be found at Lockergnome's Downloads - a long overdue extension. It's simply more software for your system… snoop around. I hope you'll find one or two useful things to download there; the database should be updated quite regularly. Download away!

vitamin water

vitamin water is not only fun to drink, it's fun to read. This morning, I'm having a bit of vitamin water 'stress b' / lemon-lime:

for the temporary relief of stress associated with personal finances, high school reunions, computer viruses, and telemarketers calling during dinner. continuous usage may lead to the extinction of reclining chairs, therapists and radio stations beginning with the name “light” or “easy.”

Ponzi is chugging a vitamin water 'formula 50' / grape:

inspired by today's most talked about artist, hottest record producer and soon-to-be movie star, this “not so-hypnotic” tonic contains (hint, hint) 50 (per) cent of many of the important vitamins that you need every day. however, unlike mister fifty (or “fiddy” as the kids say), this drink does not contain talent, a seven-figure recording deal, platinum jewelry, a big entourage or a bulletproof vest.

vitamin water is not as sweet as Gatorade, and it's healthier than Kool-aid. If you're feeling brave enough, swing by Glaceau's vitamin water site and look up 'spot of tea dear' (10:56 am is time for…) - keep revisiting that page until you see a very disturbing image of an elderly lady [not work safe]. thanks for that, vitamin water. I now need to wash my eyes out with 'revive.'

New Years Resolutions

Most of you are probably going with the standard New Years resolutions: lose weight, lose more weight, and lose weight quickly. I started early, which is a good thing for you. I've given the Ab Lounge a go, and that seems to work best for those folks who are already nothing but skin and bones. Fat = no visible results with the Ab Lounge. Now, the Gazelle… well, Latthana heard your posted pleas and took a movie of me on the Gazelle. It's seriously super simple to use, and if you do your workout in front of the television, the time (and calories) just fly by. IF your New Years resolution has anything to do with a diet, then don't forget exercise. Skip the gym membership, though. I'm a geek who hates anything complicated, and that Gazelle continues to do wonders for me. New Years resolutions were made to be broken, but here's a tool to buck the trend this time around.

Songs for the New Year

First up, The Ballad of Robert Scoble:

robert scoble is bilbo baggins, working hard at microsoft
a hobbit looking for the precious which gollum (bill gates!) eyes so oft
it's robert scoble, gollum can go take a hike!
it's robert scoble, awesome and noble, a knight!
it's robert scoble, a hobbit who knows how to bridge the gap
between corporate communications and bloggers!
robert scoble used to work for a conference coordination business
then he made the move to microsoft and now he's an evangelist
it's robert scoble, gollum can go take a hike!
it's robert scoble, awesome and noble, a knight!
it's robert scoble, a hobbit who knows how to bridge the gap
between corporate communications and bloggers!

And next, Computer Go Bung:

Got to diagnose it
try to detect it
Time to disinfect it
Computer Go Bung!
Gotta reload Windows
and get all of those
silly little updates
Computer Go Bung!
Bung Bung bitty bung bitty bung bung
bitty bung a bung a bung, Computer Go Bung!

Your New LCD Monitor

Did you get an LCD monitor for the Holidays? Might need this piece of freeware:

EyeRelief 1.00 is a small, simple and free Windows utility that provides improved legibility to high density LCDs, allowing larger font, icon, tool and taskbar sizes at native resolutions. Users with, e.g., SXGA+, UXGA and higher resolutions LCDs may find EyeRelief's desktop scaling a superior alternative to running at lower non-native resolutions.

I went LCD and haven't looked back. CRT? No, not even for gaming. Remember, I got Ponz her own LCD a few months ago. I've been given clearance to get an HDTV, but I don't think I'm ready for a 500-pounder. We may have to go with a smaller LCD for now; I'd like to steer clear of plasma. Sean's HDTV looks nice. Any recommendations for the less-than-ideal situation?
