Being Noticed
I was taking Sprocket outside for his “final” walk the other night, and someone stopped us on the stairwell. He recognized me from TechTV (and was even able to name my show). Weird. It's good to be on the air in the Bay Area. Until recently, only satellite service customers could get our station. Now, we're exposing more San Franciscans to my wacky tech anecdotes. Like today, when I proclaimed that our Mac guy was kidnapped by the mob. Or when I pretended to be riding a Segway. It's all good – except for when it's not.
Another weird thing just happened to me a few minutes ago. I was composing the previous blog entry when I received a phone call from a frantic gentleman. He was asking if I knew more about a piece of outdated software. Apparently, some company had the same phone number as our current one. I did a quick search on Google and explained to him what had happened to them. He continued to talk my ear off and pretty soon, he had discovered that I was “the Lockergnome.” I knew he wasn't trying to get ahold of me directly because he mispronounced the domain and thought my name was Scott. Gretchen verified that she has received other such calls. Well, I guess that's one way to get new subscribers.

Chris, that's great that people are noticing you. I can't remember how many conversations I have had with geeks and not one, not one, knew what ZDTV/TechTV were. It's growing on the outside but lets cross out fingers for the inside. :-) The show's great, even though I haven't been able to catch it in a while. You're a great guy, no worries. ;-)
