Back in the Mac Lane
Ponzi and I went to the mall yesterday; I was in search of the Family Guy Live in Vegas CD (which, as it turns out, is yet another fantastic Seth MacFarlane production). I was sidetracked for an hour or two – lingering a little too long in the Apple store. Boy, that Mac Mini was just calling to me. Simple, small, somewhat forbidden. But the allure of going portable with an iBook was almost too tempting. Wasn't too long before my fiancee traipsed into the place with a sack of shoes slung over her right shoulder. “Whatcha doin'?” Oh, nothing… just watching all the cool apps go by.
She stood there and drooled herself dry, forcing me to run to the food court and bring back a large Orange Julius. I knew we wouldn't be leaving the mall without some kind of Mac machine. And so, we adopted a 20″ iMac G5 – even though, today I discover that we should have waited! Can I just return this slightly-outdated RECENT purchase for the new one? Color me very upset if that's not the case. I'm waiting to hear back from the guy who sold it to us. I'm not ready to switch, and I don't plan on it – but how can I be an informed geek if I don't even try?

I'm a recent convert…be careful you may not go back. I haven't! The wife uses the PC and that's about it.
I'm totally into Mac's (and kicking myself for not doing it earlier). I do have to give up some “things”, but I usually deal with it. Safe, fast, pretty and smooth. Enjoy!
P.S. make sure you get Tiger 10.4 OS X (that will save you $129) with your iMac if you want the latest greatest OS (which I'm sure you do).

This is precisely why my girlfriend doesn't let me go in the apple store. I'd walk out with something everytime.
I had always been wondering why you still have the imac screen shot when you sold it who knows how long ago.
But hey, contrats on the new mac, and I hope you can work something out so you can have the upgraded goodies.

I haven't checked lately, but last year an Apple sales person bragged that purchasers had a 30 day grace period to exchange their purchase. This was in reference to a customer with a similar purchase prior to an upgrade last year.

I'm pretty sure Apple has a 14 day return policy. Just call the store silly!

Let me know when your going to buy another one, and I will wait a week and then decide if I want one, HAHAHA

Buyers remorse. Doesn't this always happen with technology? Even if your mega informed. Your always going to end up finding something better and greater has come out a few weeks or months after your recent purchase.
Orange Julius – that brings back some memories. Haven't had one of those since I was a child. The mall in Decatur, IL had an Orange Julius for a few years. Then it closed. Don't think my area has one near by. Looking at their website confirms I am correct. Might have to go out of my way to get one in Seattle later this year.

Unless the cats or dogs have drooled, scratched, or urinated over the iMac, shouldn't be a problem to exchange it.
Run, don't walk back to the Apple store before all those machines have been snapped up (subject to availability). Tiger rocks and spotlight (finds text inside a PDF, for example) is just the beginning. Enjoy.

Interesting to see someone else have the same problem (drool over a Mac). I am sitting in a Starbucks right now trying to decide which Mac to get and having trouble.
I have been a Microsoft user for my entire technical career but learned to program on an Apple II+ and have always had a soft spot for Apple. I am trying to figure out how to be both a Apple and Microsoft user at the same time and failing. I have a Tablet PC and love the form factor. If Apple had a Tablet like device I would have made the switch some time ago.
Are you planning on using the new Mac as your primary computer?

You can find a great buying guide at macrumors here:Buying Guide
It tracks the product updates, and predicts (fairly accurately) when a certain model is reaching it's end.
I'm a bit suprised to read that you got a Mac, after reading your flame of the Tiger review you posted on Thursday. Maybe you figured having all those great features built into the OS is better than adding idividual 3rd party apps to XP?
Regardless, I'm glad you kept an open mind. I hope you enjoy the iMac.

I'm not in the market for a new computer, but I will be next year,
I'll get a better look at longhorn and then compare.
Apple has done a nice job with tiger, even though it's more hype than sunstance, it's nicely done.

Chris-
Just take it back. I can't see why they wouldn't let you exchange it, especially if its only like a week or two. I just got a Mac for work, my first.. an older 1GHz Powerbook with 512MB of RAM.. and the thing works better than my P4 3.4GHz with a gig of RAM. Go figure.
Be careful.. you may just switch permanently. Truthfully.. 80% of my computing is now on the Mac. :P

Well now isn't this ironic and a watershed event! Pirillo, I must say I am proud of you. After that trashing of the Tiger review I would never guess you'd go out less than a week later and buy one! Congrats on taking the plunge this time. The return/exchange should not be a problem. I was a Mac user then forced to be a windows user for work. Then made the switch back to Mac for good recently. Quite refreshing and a bit minty.

So, I'm curious. After you tirade about Tiger a few days ago, how do you feel about it now that you've had a chance to actually use it?

He could take it back, but unless they are nice and make an exception, if it works, he'll get dinged with a restock fee. Bummer eh?
BTW – my wife and I just retired our PCs for the two Powerbooks we picked up at the U-Village Apple store Tiger release party… I feel so clean again… :)

You people are sad. Why the switch? Can't any of you use both Macs and PCs in harmony without resorting to “you may not want to switch back” crapola? For all the stuff I do, I haven't even seen a need to use a Mac for anything that I can't already do on a PC. Don't bother me with your anti-MS crap either 'tards.

Why post here…..? This post is about someboy buying a Mac and leaving their old platform for the new one.
I understand, you don’t like bullshit and you’re not interested in Macs.
But.
I’m lost therefor as to why you’d bother posting here….? How did you even come to be here unless searching for Mac or Mac to PC switching or something of the sort?
I use Windows everyday. It makes up about a two thirds of the computer work I do at Whgyalla Computer Centre.
We’ve been advising people to change to Macs as the Intel processor ensures complete compatibility with any PC software, while allowing the client to use a computer that is concise to operate and largely ignored by spyware and viruses.
In fact we tell customers that the Mac runs 100% of desktop software without running “ON” Windows.
I bet that really grinds you gears huh?
