Top 5 Tips When Shopping for Baby

  • Do your research! I say this all the time in my Tech videos, but it definitely applies here. I know… that other carseat may be “totally adorable!”, but is it as safe as the plainer one? When it comes to safety, you definitely want the best. Check with friends and family, and even look online to find consumer reviews.
  • Think ahead. Don’t only buy newborn sized diapers and clothes. You honestly may want to pick up a few “Preemie” sizes, as well as “0-3 months” sizes. No matter what your doctor says, your baby’s weight will be a surprise when he or she arrives. A friend’s new Granddaughter recently weighed a healthy 7 1/2 pounds at birth… but wore Preemie sized diapers and clothes for two months, due to being long and skinny.
  • Think outside the box! Everyone knows you need to stock up on diapers, blankets, and clothing for baby. Don’t forget the other things that many people never realize until they need it “right now!”. Baby Tylenol, nail clippers (those nails are LONG and sharp at birth!), teething medicine (trust me… they DO start feeling teething pain as early as two months or sooner!), and more… remember to talk with other Mom’s online or in your social circle to get their recommendations.
  • Resale shops and Garage sales are your friend! I know, many of you just wrinkled up your noses and said “omg I am NOT buying used things for MY baby!”. Trust me ladies and gents… yes, you will. Resale shops and other sale places can have some of the best items you’ll find! Many of them have very gently used clothing and accessories for a literal fraction of the cost. Worried about germs and such? Simple cleaning with hot water and proper cleaning chemicals/soap will take care of that worry.
  • Set a budget, and stick to it! Baby and children’s items aren’t cheap. Do your research, make a list of what you need, then set your budget. Do you REALLY need all those extras? I know that outfit is adorable too, but how often will baby even wear it? Don’t overdo it. You’ll be surprised at how little your baby honestly needs in the first few months of life.
