ATV Adventure

What trip to Maui would be complete without a ride on a single-rider ATV? Ponzi arranged for us to drive up one of the volcanos (inactive, I'd assume) to take a sightseeing tour on an ATV. There were about ten of us, lined up in a row, and Ponzi was in the lead – right behind our guide. That was one dusty ride, let me tell ya. I was the only one who was wearing glasses, and the goggles didn't quite fit perfectly over my face (so they fogged up and I couldn't see anything past the end of my nose). My experience in controlling an ATV was minimal, but this trip certainly pushed me up the learning curve. This wasn't a race, so we ATV'ed along at a casual pace. We stopped once at the pinnacle of our journey to take photos and have a snack. All of us were covered with dust, from head to toe. I decided to go it without the goggles so that I might be able to see the surrounding terrain. Bad decision.
When our ATV convoy stopped at the next cattle gate, I requested my goggles again. This time, they wouldn't fog over – the positioning around my helmet was spot-on. I kinda wish we had more time on the ATV, but my muscles were happy that the adventure ended within two hours. We saw bits of Maui that few people see; if you have the chance to go on an ATV tour while you're here, I'd recommend doing it. You'll get dirty, but it'll be the fun kind of dirty. Other kinds of “dirty fun” include mud wrestling, but they didn't have that option in our travel package. ATV wrestling? Now that'd be different kind of adventure altogether.
