Are you Worried about the Gas Crisis?

On June 9th, the National average for gas prices per gallon hit the $4.00 mark. This all-time high came as no surprise to most of us. Does this concern you? Are you worried about the gas crisis? Bloggers on Lockergnome have been discussing this for several weeks. Let’s look at what some of them have had to say.

Around where I live it is starting to look like a used car lot. By the shopping centers you immediately notice the Suburbans, Pick up trucks and other gas guzzlers with for sale signs affixed. Pricing is surprisingly low for these road warriors that guzzle gas like an alcoholic guzzles booze. Rumor has it that the car dealers don’t want the big boys unless they come with their own oil well.

Not only has the cost of car gasoline hiked up, everything has hiked up as a result. Food is more expensive. Utilities are more expensive. The price of everything is climbing, and many people are barely keeping their heads above water financially. Many more have already sunk, before they really even had a chance to grab for a life jacket.

One of my clients called with a computer problem that I determined to be a hard disk failure. I gave them a price for a new hard disk plus my labor and waited for their decision. I got a call stating that they would have to wait for the repair, since the price of gas and food was cutting into their budget.

I won’t even bother to ask if the gas crisis is hitting you where it hurts. I know it is. It’s affecting us all. What are your thoughts and comments about the alarming rate the economy is slowing down, prices are continuing to climb, and the job market is staying the same?

This crisis should have taken place sooner for us “selfish and immature” human psychology to understand what harm we are doing to the planet by using fossil fuel as a means of energy production.

we need alternatives.

Electricity or hydrogen is our best bet. but I think Electricity will come first since we are more familiar with hit then hydrogen.

It is somewhat of a crisis, in that it will effect so many other companies and such. For example, airline costs, groceries, all will rise as cost to ship them increase. But I am also reminded time after time that there are other countries that have to pay much more then we do. If they can survive and manage, than I believe we can too. It is just a stepping stone for us to overcome and eventually come to accept and find alternatives.

Gas is 6.00$ a gallan here in NY

All I got to say is that we need to find a fast alternative for gas, and make it cheap or something. Btw, I don’t know if you talked about lots of things, wich I guess you did, but that youtube video didn’t show but 7 seconds :S

are u serious 4 dollours a gallen that is really cheap its

I’m not worried for myself. I have already lived my life to the point that it no longer matters. But I feel bad for my kids who are just starting families of their own and can’t have a life because of our Politicians. Some day they will be held accountable. But right now we need project to develope a new energy source quickly.

The last line of that second quote is superfluous. You could make more water analogies like “some have gotten a life jacket, but aren’t aware it has a leak” or “some folks are just treading water, but it’s been less than 30 minutes since lunch and they’re getting cramps” or “some think they’re OK on the diving board, but there’s no water in the pool.” LOL!

(I’m just having a little fun here.)

I live in Texas and I heard its one of the states with the lowest gas price and people in Texas are bragging about gas prices when they should be happy about it.

chris i am jsut like you i have no problem with the gas crisis until i get pepto bismol

Even if oil production rises again or the reserves are opened up, the oil companies are not going to lower the prices unless forced to by the government. they are used to the higher profits and won’t give them up without a fight. I don’t see the prices ever getting back to $0.99/gal.

Am I worried? You bet! I went to a private high school 20 miles away every single day of the week, so not only was gas high, but we actually had to pay tuition and it was $5000 a year, plus I have a younger sister. Now that I’m going off to college, how am I going to pay for all that gas? Or find a car that’s cheap enough and gets enough MPGs that someone else hasn’t already bought up? It’s a major headache, that’s what it is.

Yes. 100% Yes! The prices of gas are keeping people from leaving the house. They aren’t getting any better. The prices of gas will just keep getting more expensive. It Sucks!

The rising cost of EVERYTHING not just gas hurts. Especially for those who like me are just now trying to get through college and get a good footing on their own. Rent is going up (400-500 dollars per month for a one bedroom where I’m looking), Heating bills have gone up, food has gone up, clothing has gone up, EVERYTHING has gone up.

Now you take into account the low income I have and the circumstances of going to college and coming from a … not rich… family and its troubling to look at. I know that next year I will be attending school full time, working a work-study job, and another job at a ironically a gas station and that is just BARELY enough to get by, leaving about 30 dollars to spare… not even a tank of gas.

Something definitely needs to change as this country slowly declines to a country for the privileged not a country for all.

I’m also not worried about gas because there is more than people think the only thing that I’m worried about is the prices.
$4.09/gal.

Yes gas is way to much. I hope it go down soon but all i hear is that it is going to get worse. I sure hope it gets better.

ya im worried that the prices might inflate to prices much like europes :[

Gas in the US is still very cheap, it needs to go to the same prices as Europe, then automotive manufacturers will have to make cars with better fuel economy, then problem sorted for now!

We WILL run out of gas eventually. This is a fact that only an idiot would contradict. The real question is whether or not it will require more than 5 minutes to locate such an idiot. I mean… if telling the world that we’re running out of oil results in higher SUV sales; well, then…

The gas in Denmark is pretty expensive it’s about 11.20 kroner for a liter and that’s about 2.50$ for a liter.

It worries me because my parents still own cars and go to work.
We’ve pretty much cut how much we drive as much as we already could, and we’re fortunate because at the moment, we live in the city where they both work.

It’s concerned me enough that I’ve decided that I won’t be able to buy any car, much less my dream one for my birthday this year (since I’m now finally old enough to drive). And that I’m going to be gettinga scooter and a bicycle to get around and go job-hunting in.

I already know that this affects everything. The gas prices affect the prices of everything else. Especially food, and the cost for businesses to stay running when many of their employees can’t afford to get to work anymore.
I know there are a few other crisis’ going around which affect the economy, which in turn affects the rest of us who’re feeling the affects of it all.

So yeah, it worries me. Not enough to make me scream or cry yet. But my family’s been used to living frugal because we’ve never been that well off financially. We’re farm folk in our core. I’m sure, somehow, we’ll come out fairly decent.

The irony of this is, we’d never been able to land somewhat decently back when the economy was fine and gas was only a dollar and a few cents a gallon. But somehow now that the whole country is hit by this…chaos, this insanity which makes living hard for everybody, we’ve hope again.

It’s mostly everyone else that I worry about, these days.

I’m worried if there isn’t a return to cheaper fuel soon, we will keep on cutting back spending on non-essentials even further. Right now we have been eating out less, driving less, buying fewer gadgets. How much longer can we take $60 fill ups. Others must be doing the same and it’s got be hurting the economy.

My father works at a major gas company. Granted he isn’t a very high up executive but he does control several refineries, he told me that I need to help him over the next couple days to get as much gas as we can get our hands on, apparently there will be a gas shortage soon (his friends at other refineries have the same problem), stocking up will be the only way to have gas when the stations run out. Lines will get much longer and eventually the stations will go out of business leaving everyone without gas
