Are you Participating in FireFox Download Day 2008?
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed
Join FireFox in their mission to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours! World Download Day is fast approaching. Will you pledge to help Mozilla reach its goal?
Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. They’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. You’ll get a customized certificate by downloading from Headquarters!
With more than 14,000 improvements, Firefox 3 is faster, safer and smarter than before. Firefox 3 sets the innovation bar very high with exciting new features, including one-click bookmarking, the smart location bar and lightning fast performance. Firefox 3 includes phishing and malware protection, plus new instant site ID info. With features like built-in spell checking, session restore and full zoom, Firefox 3 makes it possible to work faster and more efficiently on the Web. Your taste and needs set you apart from the rest. With Firefox 3 you can choose from over 5,000 add-ons that help you customize your browsing experience.
Given that there’s no established Guinness World Record for software downloads, Mozilla is destined for the record book no matter what happens. A Mozilla spokesperson said the company is working with the Guinness Book Of World Records to verify the record attempt and will be furnishing 10% of the company’s download logs for an extrapolated final download count.
So get your pledge on! Let’s help Mozilla hit the Guinness Book in a big way!

What I did like is that it asks a lot less of your pc, giving you some extra power to do other things, cause I have a lot of applications open when surfing on the internet…

that’s why you have a nice upgrade called IE tab, completely free, and wich allows you to open pages that only work with IE, like the microsoft web page :p
in a few words, is a disguise in order to deceive the web pages, and make them think you are actually using IE 6 or 7
clever ain’t it !? :)

Although I was aware of its existance and origin, I was unaware of such a record attempt until reading this blog entry and am kind of excited about its official release and Mozilla taking its well deserved place in the Guiness Books as well as the history books.
Given my magnetism for OSS and Mozilla products, I am certain to be one of the many downloading the web browser (Allowing they have enough bandwidth). It should be interesting to see Microsoft’s desperate response to this version of Firefox, after all, I found IE7 wanting.

I dumped FF a couple weeks ago. I used it for over a year, however, I never did like the way it slowly gobbles up RAM during the day for no good reason. The result is that I found it necessary to reboot at least once during the day.
I am now back with IE7 and haven’t rebooted in severak dats and it just keeps chugging along.
I am looking forward to IE8 when the completed Browser is released. No, I do not mess around with Beta’s…. or even RCx if possible.

and to comment on Safari
Safari may be small, lightweight, fast, and standards compliant (passed both Acid2 and acid3 tests in webkit builds)
But, you can’t use PayPal on it, because as far as PayPal is concerned, Safari is in the same category as IE4 when it comes to security, due to lack of phishing filter and validation features.

FF3 is going to kick ***! Used to hate it, now it’s my only drug. IE8?? Off the pipe, you suckers. I used to like IE because of its leniency as a browser… you could do most anything you wanted with CSS and XHTML…….. However it NEVER looked the same on any other browser. IE lovers, I would respect your opinion if your choice at all supported current web standards. How many of my fellow web developers here have a single site that doesn’t have a CSS/JS script dedicated to IE workarounds? How long did it take you to come up with those workarounds? ARGH!
