MMS and video recording/storing are my main 2 wants for the Iphone, and hopefully an app can make these possible in the future. Tethering would also be good

First of all, USA is not the only country in the world and AT&T is not the only iPhone carrier in the world.
I, for example, live in Estonia and my iPhone carrier is called EMT (a part of the European megacorp(sort of) TeliaSonera).
And I have these problems, too.
So, It is Apple’s fault. Or the kids’ fault who work in the (Chinese) Apple factories.

So, no, It is not at&t-s fault and it is probably apples fault for not designing the phone properly.

If AT&T is such a ‘bad provider’, why did Apple extend their exclusivity contract with them through 2012?

I agree that AT&T is holding the iPhone back from it’s full potential, but I also think Apple is. Why couldn’t they have waited a few months and released the original iPhone with 3G right away?

I guess all I’m saying is both Apple & AT&T are looking to make money, and get the iPhone in as many users hands as possible, regardless if it has every feature out there.

I have to disagree on a couple points. It is pretty easy for an app to limit its data connections to wifi only. So things like podcaster and video apps could simply be limited to wifi, cutting AT&T out of the process. Apple obviously knows this so it must be Apple that is restricting those applications, not AT&T.

I have to agree that a lot of the problems that lie with the iPhone have to do with AT&T. In my opinion, AT&T is holding Apple back. There are so many features which the iPhone could have that AT&T has given the axe to. It is so sad to see Apple’s creativity and innovation being held back by AT&T.

AT&T, like all companies, are hungry for profits. In order to maximize their profits, they minimize their costs (which is basic economics). In minimizing their costs, AT&T cuts money flow into its “Extras” such as data. It is apparent that data is not one of its priorities (as obvious by its late adoption of the 3G network technology). As such, AT&T wants to limit the amount of money it puts into things like data transfer, so what does it do? Discourage its use. How does it accomplish this? By discouraging the use of data transfer! The AT&T network has a finite amount of bandwidth. If data intensive applications where introduced to the iPhone, then the demand for bandwidth would skyrocket…..forcing AT&T to upgrade it’s network! How Awful! They would be forced to spend money on it to meet the demand!

In short, the iPhone’s problems largely stem from AT&T being in a position of complacency. They are too comfortable sitting on their old business plan to even consider pioneering a new plan.
