Chris you are a hipocrite. You said that saying the iPad is an iPod Touch with a bigger screen makes no sense. You just said the iPad is an iPhone with a bigger screen. I am so ashamed of you.

I will get one. My common sense says wait, my technolust says buy. My bank balance will probably have the final say ;-) I imagine most of the hardware shortcomings will be fixed in later editions.

I will purchase the dock – 40 years of working with IT has made me a better typist than gesturer. That will give a USB connection – I’m which will give me more.

I have a phone with a camera now. I do not anticipate this will replace that in the foreseeable future. What it will do is lighten my load for meetings, etc. I’m planning on getting the Wi-Fi version. I’m sure when I upgrade, I will have several grandchildren in line to inherit this one.

The IPad will be a huge success in the long run. as they are rolled out and people can actually hold them and play with them, It will be come apparent where theses are to go. With the ap store new uses will be invented that we’ve never dreamed of..
Many different industries will find uses for them, either natively, or with specialized programing.
To judge something by only a short demo, and very few people getting to actually hold isn’t fair to either Steve Jobs or the product .
I think this will be the longest wait we’ve had in a long time waiting until it hits the stores,, that will be the final judge, who and how people use will be the finial judge..

The iPad is a horrible idea……..sorry but I do give it it’s props just it has to many flaws to be a big none the less a “real” computer tablet. No Flash support, No USB connect port “already” on the device, and again it’s basically a Large ipod Touch. I it’s a no buy in my eyes

I have a few alternate names for the new iPad.

iGrab – A BIG touch.
iFondle – ditto

MaxiPad – and they can rename the touch, MiniPad. And the the carrier service could be called Wings. (MaxiPad with Wings)

iZac – Someone suggested this a few weeks ago, but I think they’d have a problem because that was already used in a Futurama episode for their Loveboat spoof.

I’m not going to rush out and buy one, but if they are used as giveaways at the trade shows I attend, I do hope I win one.

I just have to say I am disgusted by the iPad. I had made predictions about what it would be, and I am truly saddened to be right. They expect me to get this instead of another slate/tablet when it has no multi-tasking? Do we really want a bigger ipod touch, which is what this is? I was hoping the iPad would have a touch screen friendly OS X on it. It is 4:3 which makes video watching on it silly.

It has no flash so you are stuck with a full-sized mobile browser which is pretty lame. What’s worse, is that people will buy it and Apple won’t learn anything. We need to boycott this device. This is supposed to be a netbook replacement.. what a joke. This device does not bridge the gap between smartphone and notebook.

At $629 for a 16GB 3G device(IPAD), you are too close to a Macbook, and too far above the newest higher-end ultra-thin netbooks like the awesome 12″ Asus Eee PC 1201N Seashell (at $489, it is a steal). I do give Apple props on the pricing of the unlimited data plan they got from AT&T ($29.95/mo), but as a long-time iPhone/AT&T user, I view the network possibilities with a jaundiced eye). Too bad I can’t get that plan for my 3G card!

No multi-tasking, no camera, no voice control, no handwriting recog, no USB, no SD reader, poor name, AT&T — gosh I expected better from Apple. Might make a great e-reader but is too large for just that and the announce prices for ebooks are much too high.

Maybe some hacks and version 2.0

First of all I have to say that the iPad is pretty sweet however, there are some issues…

First – I maintain(as I did with the iTouch) that making two devices that are 99% identical is a logistical and tactical error. I simply cannot see any logic in maintaining two seperate distribution, inventory and price schemes… just silly. The lack of connectivity when wireless is not available was always a major drawback on the iTouch.

Second – for the iPad to be completely useful, it MUST have a connection, period. At $499 it is affordable and competitive with both the netbook and laptop arena, I am sorry but at $630 with still being required to pay for true connectivity it simply isn’t. I can get a netbook for $350, or a full blown laptop for $550… (the price of connectivity outside of WiFi is a wash – $30 to AT&T or $50 or US Cellular, my company is negligiible… )

Had they made a single device, with 3G capability at the $499 price mark my buying it would have been a shoe in, but…. the extra $130 (which seems excessive by the way) pushes the price point just to high… add in to that, no flash, and lack of support in other areas and I think I will have to take a pass on it…

I’m already sick and bored of my iPhone, and can’t wait to get out of my contract. This iPad just sounds like an oversized iPhone……not for me.

But as for others, who knows? It might revive starbucks again!!
