Anyone who logged into iTunes yesterday knew that the Books category had been taken over by seller Thuat Nguyen. It was pretty obvious that something was wrong when 42 of the 50 top books were all from the same seller.

Today Apple confirmed in an email to Engadget what you already knew: someone was gaming the site.

Apple isn’t exactly using the words gaming or hacked, but everyone knows that’s what happened. In fact, some commenters on The Unofficial Apple Weblog indicate there’s been a problem for over a year with rogue developers hijacking Apple accounts and charging unauthorized purchases to their credit cards.

Bottom line: check your iTunes login and make sure there were no unauthorized charges. If you find anything, contact your bank and cancel your accounts.
