You have to admit, Best Buy is a geek's fantasyland. 'Puters, home ent., DVDs, CDs, cables, routers, HDs, speakers, CDRs, etc. .
That's why I go there. The prices are good and there isn't any ego bullcrap like you get at CompUSA (I swear those people must be unemployed Tech guys, why are they soooo pissy???). Anyway, I bought a Linksys router yesterday, returned it today (w/o a problem) and bought a linksys cable modem. Don't ask why. I really like BestBuy because I can browse. I never purchase more than supplies, though. The cable modem was my most expensive purchase there. I don't think I would buy their PCs or anything of the sort. And don't get those extra protection plans for your PC. From what I've heard, they're worthless…and the salespeople try and tell you that if the machine breaks tomorrow you're screwed. Guess they've never heard of a manuf. warranty. Okay…my 2 cents.

I love their prices and they almost always have what I want but their sales and service staff just isn't up to par. For repairs and technical know-how Mom and Pop operations or my friends have been better for me. More personable too. I refer to personnel at stores like Best Buy as “Radio Shack rejects” which isn't saying much because even Radio Shack has gone downhill in their employee selection. My opinion: They hire underqualified people who have little or no knowledge in what their product is but know how to be salespeople. If stores like these had people who knew what they were selling, then maybe their service would be better.

Went to Best Buy looking for some information on digital cameras, not only did the store have the best stock (right after Christmas even) of any competing reseller, but the sales staff were very helpful. There were three working in that department and each were knowledgeable of the various makes and models. I will give them a second look when I am actually ready to buy as their prices were competitive.

Best Buy's service plans are a life-saver. I bought a Fujitsu laptop in late 1999 (yeah, I'll never do THAT again) and the hard drive kept crapping out and needing replace. The unit cost $1200 plus a $150 two-yea service plan; each of the four new HDs cost $500 each + labor and I got them all free in just a fortnight.
But yeah…NEVER call them.

I do like Best Buy, and they do offer decent service in the store. However, never EVER EVER call them. I have tried calling the store before and have never spoken to a person. After visiting the store though I can see why, they do not have enough people.

Interesting. I don't and have never worked at Best Buy. But I used to shop there a lot (in Nebraska). Haven't in a long while. I thought their service sucked. Glad it's getting better and/or better out here.
