Alienware pcs are waaaay way way overpriced but they are cool
it would be like 1/3 the price if you built it yourself and you could still get a cool case =) so unless your gettin an alienware laptop dont get it…make it yourself…or if you have alot of money and wanna buy a name brand or are to lazy to build one yourself then buy alienware

Its certainly cool to have an alienware computer because they are known to be the best though

I want to give an alien ware computer as a Xmas gift. I found a computer on ebay, and thought i was getting the full deal including the monitor. I recently found out, it didn't come with a monitor. Does anyone know if alien ware pc's are compatible with, say, a hewlitt packard monitor ( i have an extra one)? Some one out there PLEASE HELP!! thanks!

If you want a beefy machine go with the 4gb of RAM and find a good shop near you to build the system. It will cost roughly the same or less for good system. And despite what some people where sayign about needing more when Vista comes out it's silly.

Something tells me that money isn't an option here. If I were Chris though, I'd be more worried about losing street cred for buying pre-built instead of building it myself. Uber-geeks don't buy pre-built. It's an unwritten rule :P

chris, come on now… you of all people should know how cheap it is to build a system… AND that alienware charges about twice as much for a system that you could simply build…
if you dont wanna build the system, my company will….
spec out the system ya want, and ill see what i can do for ya on a price…

http://www.monarchcomputer.com is a great place. I just got an ASUS A8V and AMD 64 CPU from them and it was very quick service,and it works flawlessly. I especially like how much you can configure the systems.
I had a P4 HT, and the AMD runs quieter and faster. But I do kinda miss my 2 virtual CPUs ;)
I also was shocked at XP Home, not pro. I use XP pro on all my systems that are windows.

Bah! I quit building my own. Sometimes stability is more important that FLOPS and FIPS. When I built my own I tend to get all “fastest and bestest” parts and sacrifice stability.
My XPS Gen 5 is running fast, silent and stable for over 70 days now while I am deployed overseas. I log in to it every night via Logmein.com

Do yourself a favor. Don't buy that chip.
Get a real dual-core chip like an Athlon X2. You'll be much happier.
If your heart is set on Intel, wait until January when they have real dual-core chips based on the Pentium-M… and not this “Let's duct-tape 2 Pentium 4s together and call it a dual!”

NO WAY!
Don't buy an alienware. tehyare simply repackaged OEm machines with their branding. See powernotebooks.com for the OEM versions that are half off of their machines. Their desktops systems are overpriced as well. You should either build your own, or go Dell (Yes, I know about Dell's troubles lately).

Have you checked out Velocity Micro? You can usually get more for less, when compared with Alienware. Build quality and support is just as good, if not much better.
