Aeron Chairs

As you can see, I'm at the Blog Business Summit – doing business, and not much blogging. Yes, there's WiFi, but power strips would have been a billion extra dollars a day – so I understand why Steve (the business conference coordinator) decided to pass on it. Right now, I'm out of my chair and on the floor in the back of the room – where I'm getting juiced up. Look at all these Aerons! Dude, I've got a nice office chair, but… Aerons!? The name, alone, makes me feel smarter. The price of any one of these chairs, however, doesn't. I'll have to wait until another dot-com goes out of business before I can pick up another cool chair. Most people have lousy “executive chairs” in their office cubicle and/or home office, but if you spend all day long at a desk, it makes sense to get a chair that's very comfortable. Oh, and there's Scoble – without a chair, but with plenty of wine and cheese.

So, why don't they give one Aeron chair to every speaker – or regular attendee? How's that for swag?!

I've never understood the term “Executive Chair” for those awful chairs with no back support, and that tip back way too easy. It's almost like they're trying to make the chairs sound like a better value. Like “Premium Webhosting” or something.

I get to sit in an Aeron chair for 8-10 hours of my day… I LOVE IT!
But you're right… the price tag does make me cringe!

i still think you are classless. i am waiting for you to step up a touch. waiting. waiting

weird… they're not THAT expensive. and didn't you say you make enough from your ad programs to pay for everyone at the summit's mortgages? ;)

I'm a tall, long-legged, thin female (grey-haired). Over the years I've discovered that a comfortable chair is comfortable for me for 6-12 months. So-o-o, I get a different chair at least once a year and, though the budget basement chairs are no good to begin with, I try to stay under $200.00, so I don't feel guilty when the time comes to replace it.

I have an Aeron and don't like it very much. The most comfortable chair I ever sat in was the one before I got this, a Kinnarps 6000. Not even the top of their range, but fantastic for any geek. So comfortable. I am going to get another.

a good chair is a must!
As a paralysis survivor of 15 years, let me tell you that Aeron chairs are mere toys!
If you want comfort and protection from any “butt” damage possible from your butt upon any horizontal surface, including an”AERON”, you really need to sit on a 4″deep ROHO adjustable cushion.
Since I don't have much “feeling” below my waist, I was prescribed one of these. Wow! What little I can feel, I never need to “change position”, “slouch”, etc.
This is sitting!!!

For those of you on a tight budget, I got an AERON floor model from http://www.ultimatebackstore.com and saved $150. The chair had a small scratch that you would need a magnifying glass to see!
Anyone who says this chair is not the most comfortable one that they have ever sat in must not have spent the time to olearn how to properly adjust it to you body,

The Aeron chair is SMOKE AND MIRRORS. I bought a Steelcase Leap Chair from luxurychair.com for a great price and it is the best chair I've owned (and I've been around the block.) It FEELS like a real chair and you FEEL total firm support on your entire body. I suffer from Sciatica and this is the only chair that is bearable for me to sit in. TWO THUMBS UP for the Leap Chair…I would bet anything on it.

I’ve discovered Eurotech Chairs from the Raynor Group for affordable ergonomic office seating. I just bought myself a Eurotech Ergohuman Chair @ $500 (available in leather or mesh) I was between an Aeron and Steelcase Leap Chair before I found this and for me i found this more comforatable, but that is me. I’m also in the market for a new chair at work as mine is broken, i’m trying to get my boss to get me the same chair, but we’ll see. I’m very happy with Eurotech’s other models also, specificaly the Eurotech 4×4XL. Nothing fancy, just highly ergonomic as everything is adjustable. Office depot carries this line under Eurotech’s parent company’s name Raynor. I’m not a paid shill, i work in education, i just really like this companies chairs.

I have to agree about Aeron chairs. They look great and feel good at first. First let me say I am a software professional and spend many hours a day in front of a computer. In the late 90s Aeron’s became all the rage at Internet startups in the SF Bay area. At first they were great. Flexible, looked good, etc. As the years passed and my body gained weight and age the Aeron didn’t work as well for me. Not enough lumbar support even with the adjustable ‘wedge’. Further, the seats were no longer firm enough and I began to feel like I was in a hammock. Needless to say I won’t own a mesh chair for my home.
