Well, there was no Mickey Mouse in East Germany (which would also not be the best comic for a second grader to read as an exercise). I started reading the East German comic books called "Mosaik". I started collecting them since I was second grade and able to read them fluently. The "Mosaik" comics started in 1955. I have today ALL issues, from 1955 to 2008. I destroy their monetary collectors value though, by letting the single issues bind together by a professional book binder to books with linen covers and engraved letters that show the issue numbers and years of the issues that make up each book. I want to keep the book for myself and one day inherit them to my children (when I get any). Since the value is reduced significantly because of the binding, will I and also the heir of the collection think twice about selling it. heheThere exists a Wiki for Mosaiki, but it's in German, sorry
http://mosapedia.deIn the 1980s did East Germany print and export 42 issues of the comic in English for India, there called Mosaic (doh). I also saw english language print versions of some of the Mosaik "re-print" books, which contain several issues that make up a story and had their own titile, just for the re-print book.

Comics were the first “books” that I was able to read by myself and then say that I read a book. It is a shame that people can't take 5 minutes out of there day and maybe get a good laugh from the newspaper. I guess that people don't care.-J.P.

I think that comics are very unappreciated and I wish that more people would take the time to pay attention to them. If that doesnt call my atention then I usually dont read it. Its pretty hard for me to be staring at something i dont like while reading... which is also bad cause there are plenty of bad drawings that have good texts.
Anyway, I like the last one. Predictable, but always funny.

The first thing im attracted to is, by far, the drawing.
